Position Summary:


The Chemical/Process Engineer is responsible for managing and executing production process projects within their assigned product line. This position will collaborate with Product Management, Production, Quality and Applications Engineering to create and improve processes that optimize manufacturability, functionality, cost, and quality. Success in this position requires a data driven, self-starting, multi-tasking, organized and detail-oriented personality as well as the ability to pursue tasks independent of managerial oversight while thriving on a collaborative team environment.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with Quality to develop work instructions, checklists, TEIs, FMEAs, control plans and other documentation as required. Ensures that ISO processes and documentation (procedures, work instructions, etc.) are up to date for all engineering systems.

  • Support the identification and implementation of Statistical Process Control Parameters and Internal Process Parameters (IPPs).

  • Address problems effectively; develop data-based solutions/options, develop a scheduled plan, effectively communicate plan to the team, timely execution.

  • Support scale up team from lab scale to low volume production and ramp to high volume manufacturing.

  • Coach production lead and operators in the execution of their duties to ensure work instructions are properly followed. 

  • Troubleshooting and root cause analysis.

  • Lead and support continuous improvement and quality improvement projects.

  • Investigate and implement new ideas to improve quality and/or productivity.

  • Assist in specifying and sourcing capital equipment. Work with Operations Manager to prepare capital requests, as needed.

  • Conduct regular project meetings, publishes timely project updates, and follows-up continuously on all open critical path items.

  • Work with Strategic Sourcing to identify improvements with material procurement.

  • Work with operations team to identify improvements in production materials and processes.

  • Is highly involved in plant cost savings and Operational Excellence initiatives.

  • Apply 80/20 principles to daily operations.

  • The candidate must also take on additional duties and tasks that may be assigned by the Engineering Manager.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical or industrial Engineering.

  • Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in chemical manufacturing or consumable materials business.

  • Knowledgeable and capable of applying Lean Manufacturing, 5S, Six Sigma.
  • Effective project management skills and knowledge of the engineering aspect of manufacturing equipment, its principle of operation, purpose, and its interaction with the product.
  • Understands statistics and application to manufacturing processes including statistical process control (SPC), design of experiments (DOE), statistical hypothesis testing.
  • Able to identify and define problems, apply root-cause analysis techniques, and execute a resolution plan.
  • Proven problem-solving skills, open minded for new knowledge and work methodology.

  • Strong verbal and written communication with excellent presentation skills; ability to effectively interact with employees within all levels of the organization.

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and work in a fast-paced environment.

  • Proficient computer skills - MS Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.); JMP and/or Minitab, WinSPC.

  • Must be a team player with excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills.

  • Must possess decision making skills necessary to flourish in an ambiguous environment.

  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position.
  • Takes initiative; able to function independently and make independent decisions.

 Travel Requirements

Must be willing to travel domestically and internationally as necessary to fulfill the job responsibilities.  Travel estimate for this position is estimated to be up to 10%.
