Position Profile:

The Welding Technician position will be responsible for all welding consumables testing and inspection.  This position is physically located in the Stick Electrode/Solid Wire facility at Hobart Brothers and supports the Stick, Solid Wire, and Tubular Wire Business Units in Troy.

 Core Responsibilities:

  • Perform Q.C. Tests for all welding consumables by following required work instructions and quality procedures.

  • Perform routine and advanced weld tests for stick, solid wire, and tubular products.

  • Must be able to describe differentials and evaluate all welding consumables.

  • Ensures on-time product releases for commercial and tested orders.

  • Perform detailed quality checks on product labels, product details, pallet package labels, quantities and matches with production/QA documentation.

  • Support and maintain controlled documentations for tested orders QA filing.

  • Maintains weld equipment, tools, and in-house inventory for Q.C. tests.

  • Prepare plate stock for weld tests or test specimens for analysis.

  • Communicates any non-conformance in a timely manner to cross functional team and management to take required action.

  • Offer input for areas for improvement in products, processes, and procedures.

  • Must enter testing data into computer records and maintains work logs.

  • Review test result conformance to internal tolerance.

  • Troubleshoot customer problems – RGA’s.

Job Requirements

  • Vocational welding education / certification and training equivalent is Required.

  • Extensive product, process knowledge, and welding experience of Stick, Solid Wire, and Tubular products.

  • Working knowledge of Hobart and competitive welding products.

  • Familiar with AWS, ASME, ABS, ISO, and Military specs.

  • Good mathematical skills to calculate and track quantities.

  • Multi-task in a fast-paced environment, anticipate priorities and production needs and complete tasks as required.

  • Excellent analytical skills for detailed quality inspection.

  • Computer skills including Microsoft Office (Email, Word, Excel) is Required.

  • Strong attention to detail with minimal supervision.

  • Work with a cross function team member including production, technicians, and engineers.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Team player and self-motivated.

  • Maintain a safe, clean work area.

  • Flexible.  Able to work in Piqua and Troy facilities as business needs, including Overtime.

  • Committed to cross training, team, and empowerment concepts.

  • Local travel of 20% required (within Hobart Brothers business units and warehouse).
