Position Summary:

The Technical Engineering Manager will report to the Plant Manager and will oversee the development and implementation of manufacturing processes to maintain proper product functionality as well as cost efficiency.  Works together cohesively and responsible for the development of equipment to aid in the manufacturing process.

Job Requirements


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Receives new product development proposals from the Commercial Engineering team to assist in product design for manufacturing.
  • Works with sales on a formal project analysis listing all pertinent information along with any sample parts, customer prints, drawings, schematics, etc. which are available. Reviews product to develop initial project needs for molding, assembly, related automation and quality requirements.
  • Suggest and direct engineering improvements and expansion efforts to assist programs in meeting or exceeding savings goals 
  • Develop, recommend, and implement the approved departmental budgets.  Analyze and report on variances between actual and budgeted expenditures 
  • Direct development and implementation of the annual capital plan
  • Serve as a member of the functional leadership team in daily and strategic decision making 
  • Provide leadership for the design of manufacturing cells using effective systems and simulation tools to optimize, use of space, equipment, material and personnel.
  • Assist in developing plant layout in planning rearrangement of facilities, equipment and operations for better utilization of space.
  • Stay informed concerning new manufacturing technologies and equipment in order to manufacture and reduce cost through efficiencies.
  • Ensure vendors/subcontractors are manufacturing products according to product specifications.
  • Able to assist in reducing cost through re-engineering product/material.
  • Lead key maintenance and engineering projects.
  • Leads project activities for new product introductions or operations improvements. With team identifies and proposes appropriate equipment for acquisition through the Capital Approval Process
  • Defines and assigns responsibilities, evaluates performance, and recommends personnel actions for Maintenance, Tooling, Sampling Departments and the Process Engineer.
  • Responsible for developing the overall capability of the Technical Team members
  • Actively participates in APQP and Design Review process
  • Looks for new technologies and champions projects that will keep the plant on the cutting edge of profitability.
  • Identifies the Technical Focus each year as part of the goal setting process.  Leads the Technical team in pursuit of achieving the identified goals.
  • Coordinates engineering, tooling and automation activities in the facility operations
  • Conducts daily walk throughs, data reviews and analysis and offers advice on business and process improvements.
  • Mentors technical team members at all levels based upon personal observations and business improvements.
  • Reports on Preventative Maintenance and Tooling Key Performance Indicators

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or Science discipline OR at least 8 years’ experience in an engineering role
  • At least 8 years’ experience in an engineering role
  • At least 3 years’ experience in a leadership/managerial role
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Experience and desire in developing new technology and outside the box solutions.
  • Willing to travel; primarily domestic and occasionally world-wide.
  • Broad knowledge of instrumentation and software technology and design.
