Job Description

Brooks Instrument, a global manufacturer of flow and pressure measurement and control products for critical applications, and a division of ITW (A Fortune 150 Company) is seeking candidates for a System Integration & Test Engineering Team Lead. This highly visible position will be based out of our headquarters facility located in Hatfield, PA.  Brooks maintains manufacturing, sales, and service center facilities around the world, and our products are used in laboratory and process applications in end markets such as: life sciences, petro-chemicals, semiconductor, analytical instrumentation, nuclear, and solar cells.

Basic Function

The System Integration & Test Engineering Team Lead is responsible for ensuring new product introductions meet product requirements. This includes leading efforts across functional engineering teams to make design implementation decisions as well as planning and execution of component, subsystem and device level testing. In addition to strong individual technical contributions, this position is responsible for leading the System Integration & Test Engineering team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work with Marketing to provide input to product specifications ensuring requirements are traceable from Marketing through Engineering and into Operations. Develop and maintain compliance matrices showing how product requirements are validated.
  • Function as the primary liaison between the product development and technology teams.
  • Utilize system level performance requirements to facilitate design tradeoff decisions between mechanical, electrical hardware and firmware engineering teams while considering product and projects costs and schedule. Perform trade studies including make/buy for components and systems to deliver the lowest lifecycle product cost.
  • Oversee device prototype assembly and test including the setup of a functional baseline manufacturing process.
  • Research, identify and create appropriate test systems and methods to verify designs to required specifications. Troubleshoot and resolve test method or system issues through technical expertise and data analysis.
  • Generate and execute new product reliability and performance validation testing plans. Document test methodologies, equipment, and results in formalized reports to inform development teams of findings and progress.
  • Utilize HALT/HASS methods and testing to ensure products meet customer expectations for durability.
  • Plan, setup and execute testing in the Specialty Gas Lab at Brooks to ensure product performance meets customer expectations in end use applications.
  • Develop manufacturing system software, hardware and facility requirements to support volume production and ensure product shipments meet performance requirements.
  • Perform validation and qualification testing on new production processes, systems, and equipment.
  • Provide schedule commitments and communicate regularly with the project manager status of all team projects under development.
  • Lead, mentor and assist the Systems Integration & Test Engineering group to promote teamwork, efficiency and continued learning.
  • Oversee, maintain and improve engineering department test labs and equipment.
  • Maintain and enhance department safety culture.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  •  Knowledge of mechanical design, fluid dynamics, heat and mass transfer, and electronic circuitry required.
  • Hands-on experience with data acquisition systems (DAQ), sensor interfacing (analog and digital), pneumatics, and electro-mechanical systems required.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively in a cross-functional team environment required.
  • High degree of initiative and problem-solving capability required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and technical report writing skills required.
  • Ability to follow all safety procedures required.
  • Knowledge and experience handling specialty gases preferred.
  • Proficiency in LabVIEW preferred.
  • Basic CAD modeling experience (SolidWorks) preferred.
Education and Experience
  •  BS in Engineering with 5 or more years of experience performing test and integration activities required.
  • 3 or more years of supervisory experience required.
