Position Summary:

The Construction Products (CP) Strategic Sourcing Analyst will mine and analyze data across multiple ERP systems and utilize standardized tools such as MS Excel, Access, and SQL to synthesize marketplace information into a cohesive sourcing strategy.  A general working knowledge of one or more of the following commodity categories will benefit the performance of the individual in this role: steel, steel conversion, machined components, fabrications, finished goods purchasing and third-party manufacturing.

The Strategic Sourcing Analyst will support the CP Segment Director to deliver a supply management plan that improves the overall competitiveness of the CP segment and support cross-segment Spend strategies for the larger ITW organization.  The Analyst will play a meaningful role leading projects and project support for sourcing events that span CP as well as other Segments of ITW where commonality of suppliers exists.   A capability to support negotiation preparations, assess supplier capabilities, and having a background in purchasing operations is expected.

Additionally, this person will provide a thorough analysis on financial results compared to budget, forecast and prior year, demonstrating a deep understanding of the key business drivers. He/She will also provide creative solutions and work across different divisions.


  • Data mining and analysis
    • Take existing internal and external data and evaluate and communicate anomalies and opportunities
    • Resolve internal and external data calculation errors and validate final calculations
    • Provide comprehensive analysis to support strategic sourcing solutions
  • Coordinate request for RFQ’s
    • Work with the divisions to obtain and validate commodity sourcing requirements
    • Work with the supply base to ensure a timely and efficient RFQ process
    • Build comprehensive analysis and supplier quotations to aid in the sourcing selection process
  • Market Analysis
    • Collect commodity market data and craft comprehensive market summaries that will aid in sourcing strategies
    • Work with divisions, finance and suppliers to gather and communicate commodity forecast information as it relates to Construction Products’ raw material portfolio
    • Build and maintain Steel commodity database
  • Support & lead projects over multiple divisions, with 5-20 stakeholders and manage spend ranging from $5M to $75M/annually
  • Other responsibilities may be assigned


  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Engineering or Business
  • 2+ years of purchasing experience in direct material commodities environment
  • Demonstrated success in project management
  • High learning agility – ability to develop basic understanding of assigned commodities, including but not limited to: current market conditions, key cost drivers, global supply base, and industry terminology, as it relates to crafting competitive purchasing programs for ITW
  • Strong business insight and interpersonal skills, highly preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in working with cross functional teams
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience in data analysis and management using Microsoft Products
