Job Description


The Insight Welding Intelligence group is looking for an innovative and highly motivated individual for the position of Software Project Manager. This individual will play a key role in assisting development of projects, establishing milestones, and tracking progress for successful project completions. The position will be 60% project management and 40% individual contributor focused. The individual contributor portion will be 70% software and 30% hardware focused.


  • Primary responsibilities will include developing appropriate project objectives and tasks, establishing timelines, tracking key milestones, identifying potential roadblocks, and proposing alternatives.

  • Conduct project meetings and be responsible for project tracking and analysis.

  • Ensure adherence to quality standards and review project deliverables.

  • Manager for a team of engineers spread across two locations.Also, responsible for managing contract engineering resources.

  • Working closely with the engineering team, product management, service, and end users to improve current products and develop new products to serve our customers’ needs.

  • This position will require an individual with the skills to understand leading technologies and the flexibility to adapt quickly to different projects as required.

  • Direct involvement in hardware and software design activities including: system architecture, troubleshooting, compliance testing and documentation, product introduction, and manufacturing support.

Job Requirements


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field required.

  • 3+ years of practical experience in design or engineering-related position.

  • 1+ years of prior technical management experience.

  • Strong leadership, communication, and people skills.

  • Ability to develop strategic plans for a team of development engineers.

  • Experience accurately estimating the duration of work tasks.

  • Firsthand experience with Agile or Scrum software development process in a team environment using source code control, documentation, testing, and architecture and design modeling tools.

  • Demonstrated proficiency with C/C++ programming for 8, 16 or 32-bit processors and object-oriented coding techniques for embedded applications and OS based software architectures.Other languages like Java, C#, or Objective-C a plus.


  • Two or more years of experience with demonstrated proficiency in embedded programming. Ability to specify, architect, design/code, test and verify embedded applications.

  • Experience with DSP and/or microprocessor / microcontroller based hardware to support an embedded system.

  • Knowledgeable in wired and wireless network protocols as well as data exchange formats (ProfiNet, Ethernet/IP, DeviceNet, CAN, USB, RS485, Modbus, I2C, SPI, TCP/IP, UDP, XML, JSON, Zigbee, Bluetooth, wifi, etc.).Experience dealing with multiple levels of the OSI model.

  • Familiarity in machine tool industry, motion controls, robotic or fixed automation, and sensors is a plus.

  • Experience in RTOS, embedded Linux, iOS, Android and Windows CE for embedded MCUs is a plus.

  • Experience in HTML5, cloud computing and distributed file system is a plus.

  • Experience in SQL and non-SQL databases is a plus.
