Hobart Weigh/Wrap is part of the ITW Food Equipment Group. We are seeking a qualified Software Engineer 2.  This position will be based in Troy, Ohio.  

The selected candidate will design, modify, develop, implement, and test high quality Embedded Linux network application software for scale and wrapper products. He/she will participate in the testing process through code reviews and analysis as well as test witnessing and certification of software. Individual will be responsible for weigh wrap product graphical user interface, wireless and wired networking, and business logic development. This individual will rely on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job and must work with little supervision. Creativity and innovation is a very important aspect of this position.

The selected candidate will use their knowledge and expertise to develop software solutions for specific applications in products for our customers.

Business Unit Qualifications

·       Plan, develop, and implement projects as an individual contributor or as a member of a cross-functional team working on weigh wrap products

·       Design and/or evaluation of software components and systems of limited scope requiring knowledge of accepted engineering theory and principles

·       Apply analytical engineering theory to specific designs, or evaluates designs with cause and effect analysis and statistical data analysis. Perform analysis of data and makes appropriate modifications; follows design through series of related processes

·       Provides written input for project reports, focusing on assigned tasks

·       Responsible for discreet tasks on projects. Tasks will involve more complex or diverse design techniques

·       Participate in design reviews and provide feedback to the team

·       Lead code reviews for assigned tasks and document the software design

·       Develop and execute testing for new software enhancements that assure correct functionality.

·       Active participant in integration and regression testing

·       Communicate effectively at all levels within the customer organization (IT, Networking, coding) regarding complex issues. 

·       Must be an excellent communicator and able to effectively deliver complex information to various technical levels within the organization and/or customers. Requires effective oral, written and interpersonal communication skills. OR Must be able to articulate very complex issues with regards to networking, wireless, and coding understanding the audience.

·       Interact and communicate with Sales (KNAMs and NAMS) and Service organizations.  

·       Excellent problem-solving skills required to resolve the different levels of complexity of customer requests. Utilize deductive reasoning skills while staying attentive to details

·       Creative, adaptable, flexible, sense of urgency, listening skills, and organized

·       Knowledge of Information Technology Systems. Knowledge with IP network design and IP addressing scheme. Understand basic routing protocol.

·       Knowledge of wired and wireless network infrastructure, TCP/IP interfaces.  Experience in network security and protocols and network management protocols

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

·       BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering (4-year degree)

·       5 years software development with an object-oriented programming language (C++)

·       1-year Embedded Linux network stack programming to initiate and maintain wireless and wired network connections (including but not limited to IPv4, IPv6, Routing, Multicast, DHCP, NAT, TCP, UDP, etc..) specifically 802.3 and 802.11 networks and operating system administration

·       MS Visual Studio 2010+ IDE experience

·       Applicable desktop publishing skills to include Microsoft Office and Visio

·       Up to 20% travel depending upon customer needs

·       Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds 

Preferred Qualifications

·       MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering

·       Qt5 graphical user interface development

·       Python scripting language development

·       Java programming language skills

·       Familiar with use of the SVN version control system

·       Experience with development projects employing USB, i2c, SPI, RS422/485/232 protocols

·       SQL Database development concentrated on query language, db. creation, and maintenance

·       Squish automated test script development

·       Virtualization technologies experience with VMware Workstation or VirtualBox
