Position Summary

The Segment Category Manager is responsible for leading the management and execution of all Non-Ferrous Metals and Mechanical Components Categories as well as the Segment specific category sourcing activities for the Welding Segment on a global basis. Reporting directly to the Segment Sourcing & Supply Chain Director, he/she is responsible for developing and executing comprehensive category sourcing strategies and executing sourcing projects to ensure that the Segment’s Strategic Sourcing objectives are met. The Category Manager will be responsible for leading a Portfolio spend of more than $150MM, and will be a key stakeholder on applicable ITW Non-Ferrous & Mechanical Components Category teams. He/she will also be responsible for supporting the applicable Segment and Divisional Sourcing leaders in the development and execution of Segment Specific category strategies and sourcing projects.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Identifies and executes Strategic Sourcing Initiatives that leverage purchasing scale and enhance profitability and global competitiveness.

  • Develops and implements Category Strategies and Source plans to harness economies of scale, drive economic value, and enable business growth.The incumbent will develop these strategies in close coordination with ITW Corporate Sourcing, and the Welding Sourcing Leadership Team to ensure alignment and leverage of ITW scale.

  • Responsible for supplier identification and qualification globally, and should ensure that the company’s suppliers can meet each Divisions exacting strategic, quality, supply continuity, technology, and commercial requirements.

  • Support sourcing requirements for the implementation of innovative new products that differentiate ITW in the market by ensuring that all Supplier sourced items meet ITW requirements.

  • Leads complex and critical negotiations utilizing extensive professional knowledge and experience of principles and techniques of negotiation in the purchasing cycle.

  • Designs and implements methods for assessing contractual performance of major suppliers, initiates supplier improvement programs, manages and negotiates variations within and outside scope of contracts, and enforces contract remedies.

  • Develops and integrates best practice across the Segment, ensuring the best use of effective supply chain tools, techniques and processes.

  • Acts as the Category Subject Matter Expert representing the Segment.

  • Coaches, mentors, and develops sourcing talent within the Segment.

  • Builds and leverages relationships and networks across the organization. Uses personal influence skills rather than position power to persuade others and gain support.

  • Travel to suppliers and other Segment and ITW locations as necessary.

  • 10+ years of broad sourcing experience, preferably in a manufacturing organization, across a large multi-location, global business

  • Experience in category or commodity management, buying of related materials, financial and analytical roles, and experience in sourcing, procurement, materials management, or related technical disciplines preferred

  • Specific category experience in machined components, fabricated metal components, sheet metal, castings, hydraulic and pneumatic components, metals is highly preferred

  • Training in effective negotiations, procurement, contract law, MRP, and presentations is preferred

  • Extensive personal computer skills, with excellent skills specifically on Microsoft platforms (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required. Microsoft Power BI, MS Access and MS Project skills desired

  • High degree of interpersonal and negotiation skills

  • BS or BA in Business, Materials Management, Supply Chain Management, Technical, or Engineering

  • MBA is preferred

  • Lean Six Sigma background or certification is preferred
