Job Description


The Reliability Test Engineer will work with ITW Welding Segment technical teams in designing and testing products to ensure compliance with reliability, certification, and EMC requirements. The Reliability Test Engineer must also possess knowledge of statistics and probability theories to calculate reliability factors which determine product design requirements and the most efficient and effective product testing methods. Other duties include:


  • Planning and executing projects within the scope of reliability and certification testing.
  • Communicating project or program status, work activities, and potential problems to supervisors, project members, and others as appropriate.
  • Reviewing all compliance tests and developing new test methods and best practices in a decentralized structure.
  • Understanding the operation and maintenance of test equipment and data acquisition systems.
  • Leveraging information technologies as a tool to improve testing, data collection and analysis, and communication capabilities.
  • Spending time in the field understanding product use cases and thinking strategically and critically to modify test methods that correlate to field usage.
  • Developing and implementing a data collection plan to provide better assessment of product lifetime testing.
  • Monitoring project plans and status to ensure scheduling of related in-house and outsourced testing.
  • Designing and developing next generation testing methods of product hardware and software for labs and production lines.
  • Witnessing CSA certification tests.
  • Limited travel required.


  • B.S. in Engineering or two year technical degree and presently enrolled in a B.S. Engineering Program.
  • Good understanding and application of statistics and statistical analysis.
  • Knowledge of embedded code, LabVIEW programming, and information technology systems.
  • Ability to manage and direct people.
  • Strong project management skills ' analytical, organized, and detail oriented.
  • Exposure to DFMEA (Design Failure Mode Effects Analysis) and DOE (Design of Experiments).
  • Exposure to uncertainty budgets.
  • Ability to develop an understanding of product degradation mechanisms and how they can be accelerated by different factors.
  • Effective Communicator ' able to understand and interpret design and test requirements pertaining to codes and standards, communicate commercial impact of these requirements to key Division stakeholders, and advocate for the welding industry through technical committee participation.
  • Comprehensive lab safety training.


  • Bachelor degree in Operations, Quality, Science, Engineering, or other similar field with related experience
  • 5 years of experience in supplier quality field
  • Strong communication, leadership and team building skills
  • ASQ certification or quality auditor certification preferred
  • Training in problem solving, continuous improvement, pareto, and/or Six Sigma preferred
  • Project management and organizational skills
  • Ability to read and interpret Engineering drawings, PPAP, APQP, ISO
  • Strong SPC background
  • Experience in a manufacturing and assembly environment
  • Travel will be required up to 30% with the potential for international travel.
