Research and Development Technician

Job Summary: Lab and testing technician

Reports to:

R&D Project Manager

Direct Reports:



San Luis Obispo, CA




The 80:

-          Evaluation, Testing, and Reporting on all Retail products, specifically, sealants, tire inflators, gauges, accessories

-          Benchmark testing of competitor products in all categories

-          Communicating test results

The 20:

-          Support and improvement of testing protocols, methods, reporting, and tracking

-          Review and design of prototype products

-          Testing of OEM sealants

-          Test development for OEM sealants

Key Deliverables to Demonstrate Success in 12 mos:

-          Able to perform Calibrations/verifications on test equipment as required

-          Be able to run all Retail and OEM test machine

-          Proficient in Lock Out Tag Out/ other safety measures

-          Understand how to diagnose electrical issues with multimeter

-          Operation of vehicles on road to specifications

-          Tear-down equipment and root cause analysis

-          General understanding of 12v dc system to vehicles

-          General understanding of tubed and tire products

-          General understanding of tube and tire products

-          Initial training in 80/20 and FTB innovation concepts

-          Ability to run lab mixer and mix batches per provided work instructions

-          Use of Solidworks

-          Understanding of machining, creating tools/test fixtures

-          Work to develop new specs with new equipment

-          Ability to solve problems in unique/creative ways

Skills and Experience Needed

-          High School Graduate or G.E.D

-          Must be able to change a car and bicycle tire

-          Must be able to operate machinery safely and proficiently

-          Demonstrated ability to work with Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

-          Demonstrated ability to speak and write clearly and effectively

-          Ability to follow complex instructions when instructed

-          Must have a mechanical mind and abilities

-          Must have knowledge of general tool operation

-          Must be methodical and organized in work practices

-          Must be precise and detail oriented

-          Must be flexible to work occasional overtime

-          Other skills include general tool and analytical equipment use

-          Plus- if have worked in a testing lab setting previously
