Kester is a $70 million global supplier of assembly materials to the electronic assembly, component, and microelectronic marketplaces. Our products include an array of basic and high-tech attachment materials including traditional soldering chemicals, paste, wire and bar products. Position Summary:

The Quality Engineer incorporates quality into production and supporting department processes, by effectively applying ITW tools and the Quality Department’s best-known methods.  The position ensures compliance to customer requirements and Kester’s Quality Management System and engages in positive communications with internal and external customers.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain and review SPC data related to in-process parameters and incoming quality inspection. Conduct proper investigation and determine appropriate disposition, documentation, and communication to management team for any data point out of specification/control.

  • Lead cross-functional meetings to review non-conforming materials.

  • Facilitate root cause investigations utilizing 8D format for internal and external excursions and communicate results to the management team and customers.

  • Interpret specifications and test results to make product disposition decisions.

  • Conduct product and process audits to identify and prevent risks.

  • Perform data collection, analysis and create reports for customers, suppliers and Kester.

  • Investigate new ideas to improve safety, quality and productivity.

  • Actively involved in the continual improvement of Kester’s Quality Management System.

  • Actively involved in New Product Introduction Process to provide Design for Quality input and ensure all appropriate activities are carried out and properly documented.

  • Develop Quality Metrics and Key Indicators to drive Continual Improvement. Communicate results to Senior Leadership and Operations teams.

  • Provide Global support for quality improvements, scale-ups and customer technical issues.

  • Serve as a subject matter expert, change agent and technical resource for internal clients.

  • Assist in process development, designing and commissioning new equipment.

Job Requirements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Material Science, or other related sciences.

  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification a plus

  • 3-5 years of quality experience in a manufacturing environment, relevant industry experience preferred.

  • Experience in an ISO 9001 environment, TS/ IATF 16949 environment preferred.

  • Ability to read, write, and interpret work process procedures, and customer reports.

  • Strong project management and leadership skills

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to effectively interact with customers

  • Solid understanding of statistics and application to manufacturing processes including statistical process control (SPC), design of experiments (DOE), statistical hypothesis testing.

  • Working knowledge of quality tools including 8D, root cause analysis, MSA, APQP, Control Plan, PPAP, FMEA.

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and work in a fast-paced environment

  • Proficient computer skills - MS Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.); JMP and/or Minitab, WinSPC

  • Must be a team player with excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills.

  • Knowledge of Kaizen, Lean Manufacturing, 5S, and Six Sigma a plus.

  • Must possess decision making skills necessary to flourish in an ambiguous environment.

  • Takes initiative; able to function independently and make independent decisions.

  • Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, communication and presentation skills with experience in communicating and working with a remote team.

     

    Travel Requirements

Must be willing to travel domestically and internationally as necessary to fulfill the job responsibilities.  Travel estimate for this position is estimated to be up to 10%.
