Position Description:
ITW Bedford Wire is looking for self-driven Quality Technician interested in developing skills and experience in the quality field.  The QA/QC tech will facilitate responses to customer concerns and various quality assurance programs across the Bedford Heights facility. This is a first shift position with usual hours of 8:00 AM- 4:00 PM, subject to business need.
Essential Functions:

  • Sample collection, sorting and testing (Tensile, ROA%, HRB)

  • Operate abrasive saw to prepare Micro-mounts

  • Preparation of metallographic solutions

  • Rate microstructures against customer specifications

  • Evaluate mechanical & physical steel properties against customer specifications

  • Generate customer material certifications

  • Enter chemistries into the BW system to verify material meets customer specifications

  • Actively participate in company efforts to improve workplace Safety

  • Responsible for identifying and resolving quality problems and NCRs

  • Responsible for supporting, developing and improving the company’s Quality, Environmental & Safety Management Systems

  • Responsible for supporting internal and registrar audits.

  • Responsible for monitoring non-conformance areas

  • Recognize/Differentiate between steel grades, heats & sizes

  • Knowledge of product descriptions and ID requirements

  • Knowledge of Quality & Safety Policies

  • Micrometer calibration

 
Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma required; Technical School, or Associates Degree preferred

  • Prior experience in quality-related, or automotive business preferred

  • Continuous Improvement mindset

  • 3 to 5 years’ experience in Quality is preferred

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating, and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals

  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.

  • Excellent computer skills

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Use of Optical Emission Spectroscopy to verify grade chemistries

  • Communication skills both oral and written

  • Self-motivated; Team work is mandatory

  • Attention to detail

  • Good problem-solving skills
