Job Description

This key position is responsible for the procurement, inventory management and sourcing strategies for the Consumable (finished goods), Equipment and Hardness assembly business units.  This individual will work with all functional areas to meet the goals
and objectives of the business regarding cost, inventory levels and supplier quality. 



  •  Develops/manages/executes Supplier Selection activities for current product offerings, this will include developing a new supplier selection and qualification process
  • Develops/manages a Supplier Risk Management program
  • Plans and manages the supplier transition process to the tactical Purchasing Group after release
  • Manage execution of the division’s strategic sourcing initiatives, including supply market analysis, strategy development, requests for proposal (RFP) process management and supplier negotiations
  • Support New Product Development (NPD) and Product Sustaining activities; this will include working with both NPD and Sustaining Engineering teams as well as Product Development on new technologies and/or re-sourcing initiatives when required, including
    the management of supply chain activities related to Alpha, Beta, and production launch schedules
  • Execute process and strategy improvement initiatives including contract negotiations, management of supplier performance/compliance and the development of sound sourcing strategies and measurements
  • Responsible for Buehler’s Conflict Mineral compliance program, this includes working with the ITW Corporate Conflict Minerals team to publish Buehler’s Conflict Minerals report annually

Inventory Management/Purchasing:

  • Effectively carry out all managerial role responsibilities including requirements pertaining to overall performance management, employee development and interdepartmentalcooperation by employing effective supply chain strategies and team leadership
  • Manage day-to-day activities of the Purchasing department (workflows, personnel performance/development, and operational performance) to ensure the timely delivery of high quality products and effective supplier/cost management performance following the
    ITW leadership philosophy
  • Negotiates/manages pricing and other contractual aspects of supplier relationships by utilizing total cost of analysis including the development and execution of annual project plans with key identified ‘Preferred’ suppliers in support of continuous improvement
  • Implement and manage inventory management programs including Material Rate of Demand (MRD), Two-bin & Kanban systems, In-lining, Consignment, Out-sourcing, Product Line Simplification (PLS), (USa) Process Simplification and Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI)
  • Establish and manage a standardized supplier quality and on-time delivery performance monitoring program to support ongoing business unit performance goals
  • Investigate and drive cost reduction opportunities in key 80-level consumables and 80-level subcomponents of the Consumable, Hardness and Equipment production categories

Job Requirements

Required Experience

  • Minimum 5 - 7 years of Purchasing and Sourcing experience in a manufacturing setting
  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related area; Advanced degree or prior experience in a purchasing or operations role within an ITW division a plus
  • Excellent leadership & interpersonal communication skills
  • Results-focused, with a proven ability to drive continuous improvement and be an agent for change
  • Proven capabilities in project management and complex negotiations
  • Highly skilled in quantitative analysis and proficient in the use of Microsoft Excel
  • This position requires up to 15% domestic and international overnight travel to supplier’s facilities, ITW divisions, customers, & Buehler international facilities
