Job Description

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a global leader in materials testing, managing projects to develop bespoke products and accessories to meet the testing needs of our customers not covered by our standard catalogue. Projects include:

  • Upgrading electronics on our customers’ existing machines (Retrofits)

  • Chambers & furnaces for materials testing at above and below ambient temperatures (Thermal Products)

  • Other bespoke accessories for ElectroPuls, Servohydraulic and Electromechanical machines

  • One-off ElectroPuls and Servohydraulic machines

In this role you will become an expert in project engineering, while working with many different functions of the company including Engineering, Sales, Manufacturing and Service across multiple sites around the world.


Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Detailed electrical and mechanical design (using CAD)

  • Planning, budgeting, organisation, execution and control of projects

  • Development and testing of bespoke products

  • Ensuring designs adhere to all necessary technical and safety requirements

  • Liaising with project stakeholders from Engineering, Manufacturing, Service and Sales to ensure the best solution is found for the customer.

  • Occasional visits to Customer site, where required, to assist in the commissioning of custom products.

Job Requirements


  • Experience of project management

  • Ability to generate theoretical and practical electromechanical designs supported by technical calculations.

  • Good knowledge of electrical cable design, component selection, mechanical stress analysis and experimental methods of determining sound designs. (Experience in PCBs and / or Thermodynamics desirable)

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Self-motivated completer-finisher. A details person who is thorough.

  • High competency CAD user (Solid Edge and / or OrCAD Capture desirable).

  • Ability to inter‑relate with other disciplines.

  • Ability to design for quality, performance, manufacturability, serviceability, reliability and cost‑effectiveness. (Quality management systems, lean manufacturing and / or hands on service experience desirable).

  • Competent in MS Office e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint (Experience of using Microsoft Project and / or writing VBA Macros for Excel desirable)

  • Experience of using product life cycle management, enterprise resource planning and product data management software systems (Agile, IFS and SOLIDWORKS PDM desirable).

 

Qualifications

  • 2:1 degree level+ or equivalent with proven competence and appropriate 2 years+ postgraduate experience:

  • Primarily as an electromechanical engineer OR

  • Primarily as an electrical engineer with mechanical experience OR

  • Primarily as a mechanical engineer with electrical experience

Working Conditions

  • Normal office and factory environment.
