Job Description

We are currently seeking an experienced Production Supervisor to oversee our 2nd Shift production operations in our Machesney Park, IL Facility. The ideal candidate will be highly organized and able to ensure that manufacturing remains a smooth and efficient process. The role requires the ability to monitor employees and organize workflows. Production is a fast-paced environment and the supervisor is an integral part of the manufacturing process.  The qualified applicant must be highly skilled in complex operations and able to comprehend the multifaceted nature of the manufacturing process. The ability to optimize day-to-day activities while minimizing costs is also essential to ensuring maximum quality and efficiency. This role is essential to our overall Plant objective—to ensure that the production processes results in products of maximum quality with maximum profits in accordance with ITW’s 80/20 Business Model.


  • Plan and execute production schedule, providing supervision and direction to Production Team Leads and operators.  Allocate resources to ensure minimum downtime and completion of scheduled activities.  Prioritize and manage workload to ensure assignments address the objectives of the plant, company and customers.
  • Supervise and assist in the training of new and existing production processes.  Provide training, guidance and coaching to employees in a consistent and constructive manner. 
  • Manage employee conduct and performance in a manner consistent with ITWs values.  Partners with Human Resources for advice and consultation as needed.
  • Maintains staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees; developing personal growth opportunities.
  • Completes annual performance appraisals; able identify performance gaps and coach accordingly.
  • Communicate shift activity to personnel and keep them informed of any changes to equipment, process and materials.
  • Monitor the efficiency and quality of all production jobs.  Review goals daily and identify root cause if goal is not obtained, report findings.
  • Work with Quality Control to design, implement, and monitor quality awareness and improvement programs.
  • Oversee and maintain safety practices by promoting a safety culture and work environment in accordance with company policies and OSHA regulations.
  • Work closely with peers/team to develop good team working relationships and cross shift team relationships.
  • Ability to identify opportunities for continuous improvement and use ITWs CI tools
  • Knowledge of all essential equipment and ability to oversee and schedule regular maintenance
  • Maintains inventory of shipping material and supplies.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; benchmarking state-of-the-art practices; participating in professional societies.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Associates degree in Business Management or related field; Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Minimum 5+ years operations experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Cold forming/Metal working experience is preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years proven work experience as Production Supervisor or similar role
  • Preferred experience working in Automotive background
  • Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively at all levels; Excellent written and verbal skills.
  • Proficient with computer operations and programs
  • Ability to work independently; strong decision making and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 40 lbs.
