Brooks Instrument is an industry leader in flow measurement and flow control products for critical applications, and a division of ITW (A Fortune 150 Company) is seeking candidates for a Technical Product Specialist.  This highly visible position will be based out of our headquarters facility in Hatfield, PA (Suburban Philadelphia). In addition to our Pennsylvania operations, Brooks maintains manufacturing locations in, Hungary, and Korea.  The Company also maintains sales offices throughout the world.  Our products are used in laboratory and process applications in end markets such as: life sciences, chemicals, semiconductor, analytical instruments, nuclear, and solar cells.

Basic Function

The Technical Product Specialist is a member of the Industrial Business Unit (BU) Product Management team and is considered the subject matter expert on design and manufacturing of Brooks Instrument Industrial Mass Flow (IMF) products as well as markets, applications, and customers. This role’s primary function will be to utilize the combination of engineering and marketing techniques to drive sales results with an emphasis on increasing customer satisfaction.  This will be achieved by providing regular support to Brooks Customers and the Sales Team, working jointly with the Sales, Marketing, Customer Service, R & D Engineering, and Operations groups. In addition, the Technical Product Specialist has first level of responsibility for achieving product margins consistent with company goals.
This role requires knowledge of Brooks’ systems, processes, and precision fluid measurement and control products.  They must also have exceptional organizational ability, multi-tasking ability, have a high sense of urgency, and maintain a positive can-do attitude. Key success factors will be utilizing organizational and program management skills and demonstrating the ability to work with members of cross-functional teams on a routine basis. The Technical Product Specialist reports to the Director of Marketing.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 
  • Ensure customer satisfaction.
    • Provide detailed product and product performance information to support timely and accurate responses to pre-sale customer and sales inquiries. Be a first level technical escalation point of contact for the Sales Team.
    • Provide tools and information to support detailed, accurate answers and technical explanations to customer questions including products and applications.
    • Be directly involved in significant opportunities for ‘80’ accounts and significant business opportunities. 
    • Ensure current product line information (for example product specification, delivery or lead-times changes) is efficiently disseminated.
  • Manage product line profitability through analysis of current hi-tech industries and applications.
  • Access product costing information to support price, discount, and margin analysis.
  • Work with engineering, sourcing, and operations to drive cost reduction initiatives.
  • Utilize understanding of engineering concepts to evaluate and translate customers’ technical application needs and requests into specifications for viable continuous improvement and customer-backed innovation (CBI) opportunities.
    • Coordinate materials for manufacturing of specialized customer prototypes. Support Sales in customer qualification of new products to customer’s precise specifications.
    • Define and drive industrial engineering projects to enhance current products.
  • Work with sales and engineering groups to manage customer projects including plans, schedules, meetings, actions and status dashboards.
  • Ensure successful completion of Customer Special Requests and related Engineering Change Orders.
  • Maintain visibility into key customer orders for new specialized products, sales opportunities, new projects and new technical applications. Provide order forecasts to Operations.
  • Manage overall product portfolio life cycle including CBI mentioned above, Product Line Simplification (PLS) and End of Life (EOL) activities. 
  • Provide technical input in developing and maintaining marketing documentation and data sheets.
  • Review and update training materials and presentations to ensure accuracy of the highly technical products to enhance effectiveness of all selling activities.
  • Coordinate with Marcom to drive and develop technical content for promotions in support of product strategies.
  • Keep current with technological and competitive developments, update job knowledge by studying new product descriptions; participating in educational opportunities. 
Education and Experience 
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering required. 
  • 3+ years of relevant experience working with precision flow control and flow measurement devices highly desired.
  • Previous technical experience supporting Sales, Marketing and Customer facing organizations desired
  • Previous experience with manufacturing, business, ERP and documentation systems desired
  • Previous experience providing engineering input to cross functional projects in a manufacturing environment required
  • PMP or Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) a plus
  • Previous Industrial or Semiconductor Technology Business Process background a plus
    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 
  • Highly motivated self-starter with a high degree of initiative, creativity, and problem-solving ability.
  • A concrete understanding of mechanical engineering concepts that pertain to flow measurement and control such as: gas dynamics, physics, thermodynamics and heat transfer (core engineering)
  • Ability to lead and make contributions to a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, desire to learn, and an effective team player in a global environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including technical report writing skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Outlook.
