Process Engineer – Semiconductor Equipment

Opto Diode, an Illinois Tool Works Company (ITW), designs and manufactures high quality sensors and emitters covering short wavelengths, x-rays, EUV, and UV.  Our solutions meet a variety of application requirments for markets such
as: aerospace, environmental, fire, flame or gas detection, medical, military, or semiconductor markets.



The Process Engineer is a key staff member of the Opto Diode wafer fab process and is responsible for high temperature furnace operation, lithography, PE/LPCVD, wet etching, chemical cleaning, reactive ion etching (RIE), metallization, and supporting on-going
research projects and development of new wafer fab processes.

The Process Engineer is self-motivated and a team player, capable of tool ownership, trouble-shooting, purchasing and installing new equipment, maintaining all instruments to be operational, design and execute DOEs, SPC, root cause analysis and FMEA techniques. 
This position has five direct reports in the wafer fab process.        


  • Bachelor’s Degree in material science engineering, electrical engineering, chemical engineering, physics, or mechanical engineering, or related field
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience encompassing fundamental understanding of silicon semiconductor technologies 
  • Hands on experience in dealing with silicon wafer handling issues.
  • Experience in handling of operational data such as wafer fab production yield, scrap rate, cost evaluation, preparing weekly, monthly, yearly- based progress reports and productivity charts, as well as analyzing production costs, generating process flow
    charts, assigning production schedules for the maximum and efficient utilization of workers and equipment.
  • Experience in operating and handling metrology tools such as I-V and C-V probe stations, 4-point probe, ellipsometer, profilometer, automation of the equipment using LabView or similar will be a plus.   
  • Experience in analyzing work force utilization: distribution, facility layout, and relocation/restoration of instruments.
