Job Description

ITW Trans Tech is seeking a creative and driven Process Lab Technician to develop and execute test printing plans for new projects and re-tooling applications and construct supporting test documentation as required.  This resource will also provide process development including; sample parts for customer’s new applications or concepts, recommend inks and pads, provide customer training on site and in the field, and support equipment projects to ensure customer acceptance and satisfaction.   

Responsibilities:

  • Respond to customer calls about lab projects. Establish project requirements and expectations for lab projects. Provide customer service and technical support to customers both internal and external.
  • Conceptualize process to print based on customer parts and associated drawings. Develop and implement process for printing and determining best materials to utilize for the printing operation (including pads and inks).
  • Provide sample printed parts and supporting documentation for approval or as part of lab projects.
  • Works closely with Art Department to make artwork adjustments for new applications.
  • Make temporary plates, mix inks and construct temporary pad assemblies and fixtures as needed in preparation for testing.
  • Assist applications and sales in discussions with customers on consumable and equipment projects.
  • Participate in special projects as required including research and development regarding ink adjustments, supply changes, doctor blade problems, consumer product instruction sheets, etc. Give feedback to our vendors as necessary.
  • Provide estimates to applications team and/or quotations for submission to customers.
  • Ensure lab goals are met. Prioritize daily workload.
  • Maintain lab inventory of materials needed to perform jobs and perform general housekeeping in the lab area.
  • Package and ship parts to customers.
  • Responsible for working in a safe manner.

Job Requirements

  • Minimum High School diploma or GED. Prefer Assoc. degree in Printing Technology or Graphic Arts/Mfg. Engineering or equivalent.
  • Must have minimum 4 years pad printing experience in set-up, operations, and troubleshooting. Training experience preferred.
  • Ability to effectively use hand tools and pneumatic tools including drills. Measuring devices such as micrometer and calipers. May utilize photo spectrometer and optical comparator. Regularly uses shears, punches, exposure units (UV), ovens, and microscope.
  • Position relationships: Contact with most employees within the equipment and sales groups. 
  • Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret drawings and technical documents.
  • Required to travel overnight (drive – valid driver’s license - and fly) on a regular basis, up to 30% overnight locally and international.
  • Bi-lingual in English/Spanish highly desired for western region.
  • Personal computer literacy/experience, including proficient skills in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word and computerized CRM and MRP systems. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Physical Requirements: Regularly required to communicate by telephone and in person. Spends majority of time walking or standing. May occasionally need to lift up to 50 lbs.
