Job Description

Primary Responsibilities:

Safety Leadership

  • Drives a strong safety culture ensuring a safe and healthy workplace.
  • Actively manages a safety program that supports a positive safety culture. Delivers superior EHS&S performance.
  • Ensures incident investigations are completed. Leads incident investigations as needed.
  • Manages site compliance with all local, state, regional and national laws, regulations and directives.

Manufacturing Management / Planning

  • Develops and delivers robust manufacturing plans to ensure the plant operates at optimum levels with efficient utilization of people, equipment, and resources.
  • Pro-actively directs the resolution of operational, manufacturing, maintenance and plant services issues to ensure minimum costs and prevent operational delays.
  • Ensures superior customer service and quality through effective plant scheduling and cross department communication.
  • Minimizes scrap and material losses; maximizes throughput yields. Continuously seeks and implements cost and waste reduction initiatives.
  • Ensures that the maintenance and engineering organizations are operating to support the needs of the plant.
  • Participates in the planning processes for the division, assisting in the development of the annual and long range plans.

Continuous Improvement / ITW Toolbox Implementation

  • Champions the ITW toolbox and exhibits relentless focusing on our 80 customers, products and processes. that reduces complexity throughout the operation.
  • Reduces complexity in all processes using ITW tools (USa, MRD, In-Lining, etc.).
  • Conceives, prioritizes and delivers operational improvement opportunities.
  • Supports the Global Director of Operations in creating an 80/20 culture throughout the division and in developing global manufacturing standards, processes, and KPIs. Manages to those KPIs.

Team Management & Development

  • Manages a direct team of 5 and total team of 100 employees.
  • Identifies, manages and develops talent to maximize individual, team and organizational effectiveness. Fosters a culture of engagement and accountability.
  • Coaches through feedback, development planning and performance management.
  • Provides training to new and existing staff and support them in their career goals.
  • Uses effective change management skills to effectively to plan, implement and evaluate change.

Manufacturing Support Activities

  • Oversees management of maintenance department. Ensures KPIs and targets are developed for maintenance activities; manages to targets.
  • Oversees management of quality department. Ensures ISO QMS is current. Utilizes ISO QMS to support continuous improvement efforts within the plant.
  • Supports complaint investigation; ensures customer needs are met during complaint investigation process.
  • Manages engineering activities. Develops and implements short term and long-term capital plans.
  • Ensures capital projects are delivered to scope, on time and within budget.
  • Oversees purchasing for consumables and raw materials. Supports Strategic Sourcing efforts. Works with local suppliers to develop relationships as needed.

Job Requirements:

  • Degree in Business Management, Business Administration or Engineering (engineering or technical degree preferred).
  • 10 years’ experience in industrial manufacturing and 5 years manufacturing leadership (production manager or above). Plastic extrusion, blown film extrusion and 24/7 plant operation experience a plus.
  • Experience in a world class manufacturing organization. Experience utilizing tools such as Kaizen, Kanban, visual workplace, 5S, etc.
  • Demonstrated success delivering results in a continuous improvement environment (6 Sigma, operational excellence, etc.).
  • Working knowledge of OSHA requirements.
  • Non-union work environment experience
  • Working knowledge of financial management as it applies to plant operations. Experience with standard costing systems preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills, including working across the organization from the shop floor to executive management. Ability to work across all divisional disciplines (HR, sales, finance and innovation)
  • Demonstrated success in selecting, developing and coaching staff.
  • Demonstrated success in delivering change in a manufacturing environment
  • Travel Requirement – Occasional travel (domestic and international) - 10% to 15%.
