The Bedford production facility sources, finishes, and supplies metal wire for Shakeproof Automotive and other ITW fastener manufacturing locations, as well as for several external customers.  The operation oversees receipt of raw material and applies expertise in metal annealing and treatment processes. 
Position Description:
This position provides overall leadership and management of all plant personnel and functions in compliance with all applicable policies, business objectives, and performance targets.  Leads continuous improvements in safety, quality, delivery, and operating costs.  Develops operating strategies, annual financial plans, capital budgets, and personnel resource plans. Primary responsibilities include:
  • Establishes strategic initiatives to drive operational strategies and continuous improvement.
  • Actively analyzes and achives key performance indicators for plant operations.  Responsible for meeting profit and operating goals, achieving operational labor metrics and efficiency metrics and for capital project management.
  • Implements lean manufacturing and quality processes and systems by leveraging the ITW Toolbox: PLS, 80/20, USa; lean principles—5S.  Leverages world class manufacturing improvement techniques to produce optimum operational excellence and P&L improvement.
  • Ensures proper operational availability, including approval of capital equipment requirements and assurance of critical wire supply for stakeholders to meet customer requirements.
  • Fosters open communication and close collaboration with other Shakeproof and ITW stakeholders.
  • Provides subject matter expertise with respect to steel/wire procurement.   Works closely and strategically with external providers of steel to ensure continuity of material for fastener production throughout the business.  Develops and maintains effective relationships with key company constituents, vendors, and customers (internal and external).
  • Promotes positive employee relations activities through personal and team leadership.
  • Champions the ITW Leadership Development framework, developing talent within the business and identifying and developing key leaders for future roles.
  • Leads, develops, and implements policies and procedures that support and drive annual plan and long-range plan.
  • Pro-actively directs the resolution of operational, quality, and maintenance issues to ensure effective management of cost and prevention of operational delays.
  • Ensures safety, legal, and regulatory compliance.
  • Maintains quality and safety programs.
  • Represents the plant within the local community and promotes the company’s goodwill and interests in community activities.

  • BA or BS degree, preferably in engineering, operations management or business
  • 3-5 years’ experience in a management role in a fast paced manufacturing environment, preferably automotive
  • Demonstrated experience to work with sales and engineering to grow the business
  • Strong working knowledge of budgets and P&L statements
  • Proven metrics driven management style
  • Coaching and mentoring leadership style
  • Must be process oriented with a strong bias for results
  • History of holding employees at all levels accountable to results and rewarding outstanding efforts of team members
  • Must be a change agent with energy, passion & enthusiasm
  • Self-motivated with excellent organizational, analytical, problem solving, and leadership skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Strong PC skills, including proficiency with Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Steel Making/Steel knowledge preferred
