Operations Manager

Illinois Tool Works (ITW) is a Fortune 200 diversified manufacturing company with eight decentralized business segments, which includes Food Equipment. The Warewash Business Division, one of the groups in the Food Equipment Group, is seeking an Operations Manager for its Danville, Kentucky location.

The Warewash Division (Stationary Warewashing) continues to expand its presence in existing served markets as well as new markets and desires an Operations Manager with experience to support this growth reporting to the Plant Manager. The Danville Facility produces Hobart brand commercial dishwashers that are used in restaurant and retail applications. The selected candidate will be responsible for leading and directing a portion of the operations ($20M to $50M) at the Warewash Hobart Danville Facility.

Scope: Reports to the Plant Manager and assist in development of team and facilities operating plan targets, goals and objectives. Manages elements of the operations for specific business and support functions at the facility, such as safety, production, materials, manufacturing, engineering, personnel development. Provides strategic input for multi-business/functions at the facility.

Responsibilities (80% Core Essential Functions):

One or more of the following as required by the Business Unit:

● Champions a safe work environment by enforcing safety rules and encouraging safe work behaviors

● Exercise management and supervision of specific businesses operations and support functions and participates directly and assist those who manage key personnel in areas of safety, manufacturing, maintenance, marketing, engineering, product development, acquisitions, finance, human resources, shipping/receiving, sales and/or services

● Manage daily activities and/or delegates authority to supervisors to assist with the business segment to include multi support functions of manufacturing, which includes planning, scheduling, implementation of new designs, and organizing productivity

● Participate and provide input for our long-range plan, strategies and continuous improvement and implementation

● Learn and Implement the ITW Toolbox

● Works closely with Plant Manager and peers to develop and provide feedback for policies and procedures

● Resolve all quality and customer issues (existing or potential) or delegate authority to direct staff

● Determine and establish long and short-term manufacturing objectives improving labor efficiencies and quality and reducing raw inventory reserves.

● Conducts project meetings and is responsible for project tracking and analysis

● Provides technical and analytical guidance to the project teams.

● Collaborates with sales and design engineering to define new product specifications, including customer contact to understand needs

● Selection, development, promotion, performance and optimum utilization of specific business operations and support functions; and at time with all plant personnel

● Assist with monitoring Company compliance with government regulations, housekeeping and plant security

Job Requirements


Minimum Qualifications:

 The preferred minimum qualifications are:

  • BS in Business, Engineering, or related field and an MBA preferred
  • 6+ years Operations experience in manufacturing environment and 5+ years of Managerial experience
  • Excellent oral, interpersonal and written communication
  • Applicable computer skills, to include Microsoft Office/Tools
  • Proficient knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting with profit and loss responsibilities
  • Experience with Team Environment and Customer focused
  • Proven knowledge of Safety, Just-In-Time, Kanban, Demand Flow, Lean Manufacturing, Assembly, Quality, and Metal Fabrication or Welding knowledge is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Industry, Product Development Process, Sales and Engineering preferred
  • -25% Travel (approximately)
  • Lifting up to 35 lbs.
