The North American Fastener Innovation Director will work across three ITW Automotive divisions, ITW Deltar Fasteners, ITW Shakeproof and ITW North American Stamped Fasteners. A description of each division is below.


Ø  ITW Deltar Fasteners serves all the major OEMs and their tier suppliers with plastic fasteners totaling approximately $280M in revenue. Units include: Frankfort, IL; Chippewa Falls, WI and a commercial team in Detroit, MI.


Ø  ITW North America Stamped Fasteners is a $180M Division servicing all major OEMs with engineered solutions in stamped and assembled fasteners under the Brands: CIP (California Industrial Products) and Powertrain Fasteners. Units include: Gallatin, TN, Lexington, KY and Naugatuck, CT and a commercial team in Detroit, MI.


Ø  ITW Shakeproof serves major automotive OEMs and their tier suppliers with metal, cold-headed fasteners totaling approximately $160M in revenue. Units include: Elgin, IL, Machesney Park, IL, Elk Grove Village, IL, Darlington, WI, Bedford, OH and a commercial team in Detroit, MI.


Position Location: Detroit metro area


Position Summary:


The North American Fastener Innovation Director will report to a VP/GM. This Director is a critical leadership role and business partner to the VP/GMs and Sales & Engineering Directors for the three divisions it will support, as this role is responsible for setting and executing the vision for how new product innovation can enable us to deliver our strategic intent of above market organic growth. The key responsibilities of the role are to carefully manage and develop the product portfolio by defending the strength and value of existing “80 products” and by developing deep intimacy with our “80 customers” to discover new solutions and products that can then deliver increasing value and incremental high-quality growth to the business over the long term.


This individual will also be responsible for working collaboratively with the division leadership teams to deliver and support our business goals for 80/20 operational excellence, zero safety incidents and an inclusive and diverse work place.



Responsibilities:


  • Lead New Product Growth Strategy by using an “outside in” approach through execution of the Customer Back Innovation Process to identify opportunities for unique and differentiated solutions for automotive fasteners that solve customer pain points.

•         Drive accountability using business case criteria and balanced risk analysis. Work closely with S&E organization to drive discovery, value selling and launch of innovative products.


•         Develop relationships with Advanced Engineering and R&D teams at OEMs and Tiers to understand the product impact of changing strategies.


•         Evaluate future trends in the Automotive space and potential impact to current IP portfolio, as well as determine future growth opportunities related to changing trends.


•         Drive an unbiased approach within the automotive fastener segment in developing inter and intra-divisional products that deliver the best solution for our customers and ITW.


•         Partner with VP/GMs and the Division Leadership Teams to develop and execute Annual and Long-range plans for the innovation pipeline and new product growth based on in-depth understanding of product portfolio position, opportunity analysis, intimacy of customer pain points and competitive position.


•         Manage IP portfolio by ensuring new technology is properly protected and existing IP is evaluated and compared to the IP landscape of our key competition.  Work closely with Group Technology Counsel on IP strategy and filings.


•         Using the ITW Leadership Development framework, develop high performing innovation teams through the process of organization design, competency development and the recruiting, hiring and developing of talent to maximize individual and team success.


•         Fosters a culture of engagement and inclusivity, cascades a vision, and creates goal alignment.


Job Requirements

Requirements:

•        B.S./B.A. degree required from four-year College or equivalent experiences; Master’s Degree a plus.


•        10+ years of progressive business experience including at least 3-5 years of product management and/or product development experience. 


•        5+ years’ experience with standards and product development activities coupled with proven track record of innovation in the automotive or similar industry – from identifying market opportunities to commercializing solutions with proven success and revenue growth.


•        Understanding of automotive fasteners is a plus


•        Proven track record of establishing relationships at manager, director, or VP levels at OEM’s.


•        Well-versed in deploying voice of the customer, solution selling, and marketing research tools and processes that drive short- and long-term product strategy.


•        Outstanding project manager of cross functional teams who can provide leadership and discipline through product development process that carefully balances time-to-market with project risk to achieve results. 


•        Solid financial abilities including working knowledge of budgeting, sales and business development tools.


•        Excellent communication skills and ability to build consensus and gain internal alignment across different stakeholder groups – cross functional team, division management teams and executive leadership. 


•        Entrepreneurial spirit coupled with a strategic, forward-thinking approach to business growth.  Sound 80/20 mindset, understanding and demonstrated experience.
