Job Summary 

The position will report to the Global Engineering Director and will be based out of our Hendersonville, TN location. The New Product Development Manager will drive Lever 3 revenue growth by leading the new product development activities for the ITW Dynatec Segment. As a leader of a global team, the new product development manager will be responsible for the research, development and execution of new product development projects utilizing the ITW Customer Back Innovation process. Beyond being responsible for developing a highly performing team, this role involves heavy customer interaction for identifying key trends in the focus markets and at key customers to influence the product roadmap for the future.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Execute the ITW Customer Back Innovation process by partnering with sales and marketing. Provide overall strategic fit analysis and technical guidance to the organization in the selection of new product development/innovation projects for the business to pursue
  • Stay abreast of the market trends and new technologies in the field and influence product development roadmap to ensure company continues to offer differentiated products bringing unique value to customers.
  • Provide high-level strategy, organization and support to new product development engineers, to ensure innovation products progress according to defined timelines, subscribe to the stage-gate process and ultimately to develop products which have successfully passed comprehensive internal and external test & validation plans prior to commercial launch
  • Coordinate/facilitate engineering expertise for the analysis and completion of root cause activities to support Quality. Organize and support requests for engineering involvement in field issue troubleshooting/ issue resolution, including on-site visits when necessary
  • Ensure comprehensive utilization of the engineering lab for creating improved product performance data, validating R&D and innovation projects, supporting Quality issue resolution and other technical testing that supports the business, while balancing provision of appropriate access for proof of process testing for potential or existing end customers that helps drive revenue generation through equipment sales
  • Provide a framework and structure to continue feature enhancements for the proprietary control systems based on customer feedback and market trends.
  • Identify needs for and then develop new processes and systems, as well as improve existing ones, for managing day-to-day workflows and operations that the new product development group utilizes to ensure increasing efficiency of the group and improved consistency of their deliverables
  • Prepare and deliver technical presentations to internal and external audiences that introduce new products, explain how products function in isolation as well as in conjunction/integration with customer parent machines/applications.
  • Facilitate patent portfolio management including coordinating new patent applications, making decisions for foreign filings, managing total portfolio spend through annual review, ensuring IP protection through NDA provision etc.

 Minimum Requirements & Competencies

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering required.
  • 5 years of industry experience preferably in new product development, from inception to product introduction and full product lifecycle management
  • Broad knowledge of electro-mechanical automation systems involving microcontrollers and PLCs.
  • Good working knowledge of AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor is required
  • Financial acumen to analyze financial results and new market opportunities is preferred
  • The ability to travel approximately 20%, including internationally, is required
  • Strong team/project management, communications, and presentation skill
