The Network Engineer role is to ensure the reliable and efficient operation of network equipment and services supporting Illinois Tool Works’ ( ITW ) Glenview Il. Corporate Headquarters campus and global Corporate offices. The Network Engineer will participate with the installation, monitoring, maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization of all network hardware, software, and communication links. This role reports to the IT Operations Infrastructure Manager and partners with other Infrastructure team members as well as End User Services and Application Operations teams as part of the corporate IT function. This position is primarily based in ITW’s corporate headquarters in Glenview, Il., but may be occasionally called on for travel to other Corporate facilities. Periodic participation in off-shift and weekend on call support is required.

Core Responsibilities

  • Support and troubleshoot operation of network services including LAN, internet, VOIP telephony, building automation systems, conference room audio/ video technology, and data center server/ storage connectivity.
  • Participate as a member of teams deploying and configuring network infrastructure initiatives
  • Create and maintain documentation as it relates to network configuration, network mapping, processes, and equipment service records.

  • Persistence to identify root cause and resolve complex network related issues

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science or related curriculum
  • Prior IT internship experience or 1+ years of
    experience deploying and operating network services and applications such as LAN, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP and Wifi
  • Knowledge of physical layer connectivity including copper and optical fiber plant installations
  • Basic knowledgeable of network access control, VLAN, routing protocols, end user client and point to point virtual private network (VPN), traffic management, security enforcement point configuration, and network intrusion detection and prevention
  • Basic knowledge of internet service provider circuit provisioning and management in a vendor and path diverse environment
  • Experience with Cisco devices utilized for core and access switching, routing, security and Wifi is highly desirable
