Job Description


The Presales Mechanical Engineering position reports to the Division’s Automation Engineering Manager and will be responsible for working closely with the product development and sales teams to evaluate customers’ requirements for suitability with our products and capabilities.

This position requires the individual to be familiar with all aspects of the automation solution, and be capable of providing flexible automation recommendations for manufacturing challenges primarily in the metal fabrication industry.

The ideal individual should have a diverse skill set with the ability to conceptualize and present customer solutions based on an engineering evaluation of the customer requirements across a broad range of welding applications and customer market segments.


  • Assist Sales with customer inquiries to determiner suitability with our products and capabilities.
  • Perform positioner load calculations based on customer part and tooling requirements.
  • Provide customers with layout drawings of standard systems and robots modified specifically to their application.
  • Provide customer guidance with respect to product documentation.
  • Perform robot reach studies using Robotic offline programming (OLP) tools.
  • Work with welding engineers to developed cycle time studies for ROI and make 3D program simulations for use in sales presentations.
  • Support sales presentations on off-line programming benefits and capabilities.
  • Grow and develop our offline programming technologies & practices.
  • Collaborate with our Integration partners.
  • Responsible for maintaining revisions to our Robot and System Models used in our OLP software.
  • Develop positioner application documentation.
  • Participate in Voice of Customer (VOC) interviews.
  • Utilize the ITW Toolbox (80/20, PLS, MRD, USa) to drive innovation and efficient solutions.

Job Requirements


  • A bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 3+ years of engineering experience
  • Solid understanding of engineering principles
  • Solid problem solving skills and understanding of casual relationships
  • Solid understanding of standards, procedures and practices
  • Proficiency in computer design skills and be knowledgeable in Solid Works, PDMWorks, COSMOSWorks and Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word
