Peerless Food Equipment is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to instruct, direct, and check the work of other mechanical engineers.The selected candidate will research and recommend suitable technologies and assist in the coordination and leadership of higher level projects in support of business objectives. This position is based in Sidney, Ohio.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs complex tasks related to design, testing, and evaluation of mechanical and electro-mechanical devices or systems.

  • Leads projects such as developing a new product line.

  • Performs product development activities including CAD layout and interpretation and implementation of customer specifications and documentation requirements.

  • Partners with manufacturing, vendors and suppliers to develop components for prototype devices or systems, meeting cost targets for the project.

  • Provides existing product line support in design activities and/or modification of hardware studies, specifications, and cost estimates to ensure highest quality and value.

  • Provides work leadership and training to lower level professional and technical staff or works in a highly technical development role designing significantly complex devices and systems.

  • May require special licensing and/or government clearance.

  • May act as internal consultant providing technical guidance on most complex projects.

  • Create and develop engineering project documentation, i.e. bill of materials, drawings, and specifications.

  • Direct and develop prototypes and test plans; validate as required.

  • Direct and troubleshoot, analyze, and resolve engineering project issues utilizing state of the art tools and methodologies.

  • Mentor engineers to learn state of the art tools and methodologies as well as manage and direct co-ops as assigned.

  • Support and implement product release plans as assigned.

  • Research and document new technologies for future product line enhancements.

  • Participate in or conduct design reviews and provide feedback, using the appropriate tools, i.e. FMEA, field and lab testing.

  • Research and provide the required product information to support sales, service and marketing to satisfy customer needs.

  • Oversee project budget and schedule.

  • Lead the design of machines as required; meeting projected cost targets and on-time production delivery.

  • Conduct custom mechanical design (modeling) and drawings using 3D CAD software. (Solid Works)

  • Perform machine startups at customer’s site as assigned.

  • Provide direction to manufacturing and vendors during the build process of released machines.

  • Ensure products comply with regulatory requirements (e.g.: BISSC, OSHA, UL, CSA, CE, ATEX) including federal, local and industry safety requirements.



Job Requirements

  • BS in Engineering or Engineering Technology or equivalent experience. (BS and 7 years of related engineering experience or MS and 5 years of related engineering experience.)

  • Effective oral, interpersonal and written communication skills, including listening.

  • Computer skill proficiency to include Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint as well as 3D CAD, such as SolidWorks (preferred).

  • Must be adaptable, flexible, organized and act with a sense of urgency.

  • Must have demonstrated analytical/problem-solving, project management/task planning, engineering risk assessment, creativity/innovation and technical leadership skills.

  • Must be able to make sound, logical judgments using deductive reasoning, attention to detail; understands the cause and effect of such decisions.

  • Self-starter; works with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to display leadership in appropriate engineering discipline.

  • Machine design experience, includes the design of machine drive systems, pneumatic and hydraulic mechanisms preferred.

  • Ability to perform analysis using the following tools and/or processes: FMEA (Failure Modes and Effects Analysis) and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) preferred.

  • Possess basic understanding of electrical circuits and wiring preferred.

Physical Requirements / Working Conditions

·       Up to 25% travel
