The role of Material Manager requires a leader to manage material-related activities in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment leveraging his/her strong interpersonal skills for the MIG Gun Division. The individual will be responsible for materials-related activities to include continuous improvement with our suppliers, manufacturing and engineering, as well as properly collaborating with and executing the ITW Sourcing, and ITW Welding Segment strategies. This position is located in Beecher, IL.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute projects in the areas of cost, quality, delivery, operational productivity, inventory management and product simplification activities.
  • Support, implement and report on material strategies in addition to participating in Strategic Sourcing projects within ITW Welding.
  • Actively engage with other members of the operations team within the MIG Gun Division and be the key influencer to communicate and drive the materials strategy in collaboration with the Welding Category Managers
  • Support the uninterrupted flow of materials into the MIG Gun Division, ensuring that raw materials arrive into the unit to meet production and ultimately customer demand while also maintaining inventory control to prevent excessive on-hand inventory levels.
  • Utilize historical and current demand to provide (MRD) outlook onto suppliers on a as needed basis (weekly, month, quarterly) to support production.
  • Maintain the annual Supplier Evaluation Process to set expectations and evaluate existing supplier base in relation to established cost, quality, and delivery metrics.
  • Implement Vendor Managed Inventory, where applicable
  • Manage supplier compliance requirements (NAFTA, Conflict Minerals, Rohs, etc…)
  • Drive new component sourcing activities by teaming with Engineering and Product Management to identify new design requirements along with evaluating potential suppliers.
  • Provide for the development and maintenance of inventory control systems to track status of purchase orders, inventory levels, production requirements
  • Oversee materials team tasked with the development, implementation, and maintenance of policies to ensure timely flow of materials to support production and meet OTD goals for our customers.
  • Collaborate with management to develop long range and annual plans for the supply chain needs of the business
  • Approve requisitions within approval limits
  • Embrace and become proficient on utilizing key ITW principles (80/20, MRD, Flow, Simplification, Empowerment, and Trust).
  • Interaction and participation with other operations leaders is expected

Qualifying Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain, Materials Management, Operations, or related field
  • Minimum 5 years of supply chain, procurement, materials, and logistics experience
  • Minimum 3 years of people management experience
  • Action-oriented with good problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Excellent leadership, interpersonal, negotiation and communication skills
  • Ability to set priorities and make decisions in a fast-paced work environment
  • Self-starter, conscientious, enthusiastic with a positive attitude
  • Proven record of setting and accomplishing both short and long term strategy and goals
  • Ability to embrace, build and promote a team environment
  • Demonstrated ability of utilizing excellent communication skills in a team-oriented environment to both internal and external customers
  • Strong background of working within a production atmosphere is essential.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% including internationally.

Preferred Requirements

  • Minimum 7 years of supply chain, procurement, materials, and logistics experience
  • Minimum 5 years of people management experience
  • Preferred experience in tracking/purchasing commodities such as steel, copper, aluminum, plastics, and electronics
  • Strong technical background
  • Willingness to pursue additional professional developmental activities as needed.
  • A high degree of understanding of the ITW Toolbox principles.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint) to prepare reports, presentations, and analyses
