Job Description

1.0 Position Objective:  

The Material Planner is responsible for providing timely information to our customers, suppliers and internal personnel daily.  Requests for information on shipments, reconciliation on inventories and production status, as well as special requests, are handled by the Material Planner.  This position will provide back-up for customer service, scheduling, and shipping areas.


2.0 Essential Functions:

  1. Summarize output daily and advise appropriate personnel of variances in the production schedule or potentially missed deadlines.
  2. Issue production reports and educate employees on interpretation and utilization of report.
  3. Coordinate material acquisitions with Purchasing.
  4. Maintain an accurate account and location of raw material, WIP, and finished goods inventory.
  5. Expedite orders as required.
  6. Monitor and release raw material for specified vendors.
  7. Maintain adherence to Company policies, safety standards, and housekeeping standards.
  8. Monitor & coordinate parts to and from outside processors.
  9. Coordinate freight to and from suppliers, maintain records.
  10. Monitor inventory transactions and balances for timely and accurate recording.
  11. Responsible for maintaining accurate and timely release schedules on a daily/weekly basis.
  12. Communicate to all relevant internal operations any significant changes to customer orders, as determined necessary.
  13. Enter new and current job information into all applicable business systems on a timely basis.
  14. Work closely with the Sales Department to provide information requested by the customers or the manufacturing group.
  15. File and maintain all purchase orders, quotes, new job launch and customer release information according to established quality procedures.
  16. Update and maintain master job list.
  17. Work closely with Engineering, Quality and Sales departments to monitor and ship PPAP samples.
  18. Enter, track and ship prototypes, as needed.
  19. Understand all procedures necessary to gather information required for returned goods authorization according to established quality procedures.
  20. Work closely with Accounting and Sales Departments to provide accurate information on customer schedules and trends to produce an accurate monthly, annual and long-term forecast.
  21. Process pricing table changes, as required, and update business information system accordingly.
  22. Participate in daily review meetings with operations personnel to determine what product needs to ship for the next seven days.
  23. Meet with Scheduling, Purchasing, and Operations daily to review raw material availability and press capacity issues.
  24. Process manual Advanced Shipping Notifications (ASN’s) for customers that require it.
  25. Provide proof of delivery, as requested by customers.
  26. Update and print inspection certifications for customers/jobs that require it.
  27. Prepare and submit invoicing for tooling and special tooling.
  28. Process debit memos, as required.
  29. Monitor and track returnable packaging.
  30. Develop relationships with scheduling and release personnel at the customer to establish contacts to provide the latest information. Customer Service Representative will determine, based on experience and best judgment, when to contact customer and what amount of communication is necessary.
  31. Monitor customer online systems, as required.
  32. Handle consignment inventory and warehouse programs at assigned accounts. Has authority to determine when to adjust schedules and inventory levels, using experience and best judgment.
  33. Responsible for on-time delivery metrics, monitoring past due shipments and reasons monthly.
  34. All other duties as assigned or directed.

Job Requirements

 3.0 Qualifications:

  • A 2-year college degree preferred. Appropriate experience may be substituted for degree.
  • Previous experience in an automotive supplier related industry preferred.
  • Strong computer skills, with emphasis on Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Effective communication skills, including written and verbal skills, as well as the ability to effectively communicate with international customers.
  • Experience with Deep Draw Stampings and/or customers a plus
