JOB TITLE:Manufacturing Engineer

REPORTS TO:Plant Manager

POSITION SUMMARY:Plans, directs and coordinates manufacturing processes to support the division, while utilizing knowledge of product design, materials and parts, fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment capabilities, assembly methods and quality control.  This position will be based in Alexandria, MN.


  • Responsible for planning, directing and coordinating the manufacturing process.
  • Develops, evaluates, and improves manufacturing methods.
  • Analyzes and plans workforce utilization, space requirements and workflow, and designs layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency.
  • Confers with planning and design staff concerning product design and tooling to ensure efficient production methods; recommend tooling, instrumentation, equipment, and facilities.
  • Provide guidance in support of moving new products through R&D into manufacturing process, working with development team.
  • Able to work with ERP manufacturing system in developing Eng. Masters, ECN process, quoting.
  • Develop, design, and document process and equipment operating procedures within schedule and budgetary parameters. 
  • Confer with vendors to determine product specifications and arrange for purchase of equipment, materials or parts and services.
  • Partners with manufacturing, vendors and suppliers to develop components for prototype devices or systems, meeting cost targets for projects. This includes sourcing parts from suppliers.
  • Evaluate products according to specifications and quality standards.
    • Understand special process like heat treat, plating, NDT etc. to relate with vendors and customer requirements.
    • Understand material compositions and requirements like strengths and applications
  • Research, development and testing of new technology.
  • Estimate production times and staffing requirements.
  • Confer with management, engineering and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedule, and other considerations to facilitate production processes.
  • Applies statistical methods to estimate future manufacturing requirements and potential.
  • Develop, improve and implement production/assembly methods and business processes that positively impact cost, quality and safety objectives.
  • Interpret the customer’s specifications and ensure those specifications are met.
  • Conduct design review sessions with customer.
  • Provide accurate cost information and technical support for product quotations.
  • Apply engineering theory to problem solving, either directly or knowing where to obtain the substantiating data.
  • Resolve quality problems and follow all quality procedures and achieve line of sight requirements.
  • Assist with assembly and runoffs as needed.
  • Assist with project cost analysis.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.


  • A Bachelor Degree in manufacturing or mechanical engineering, or related experience in lieu of degree.
  • A minimum of three years’ experience in manufacturing processing systems. 
  • Must have basic functionality in the use of Auto-CAD/Solid Works for mechanical or electrical design. 


  • Must not be restricted from having access to ITAR regulated products or information
  • Able to acquire special licensing and/or government clearance.
  • Able to obtain passport
  • Able to interpret customer’s specifications and quality standards ensuring they are being met in product area.
  • Able to provide technical support to product manufacturing/or design
  • Must be able to understand and use CAD software
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
