Logistics/Trade Specialist, Norwood, MA

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Classify goods according to U.S. harmonized tariff schedule (HTS).
  • Audit U.S. Customs entries for accuracy.
  • Audit customs broker’s freight/duty invoices for accuracy and authorize such for payment.
  • Prepare and process import and export documentation according to customs regulations, laws, or procedures.
  • Assist in the development of a HTS number database and a process for maintaining it in the company’s ERP system.
  • Coordinate logistics requirements for internal and external customers on a domestic and international basis.
  • Stay abreast of changes in import or export laws or regulations by reading current literature, attending meetings or conferences, or conferring with colleagues.
  • Act as an in-house expert for trade related matters and assist in training in-house personnel on such matters.
  • Request or compile necessary shipping documentation, such as customs invoices, certificates of origin, and cargo-control documents so that company is in compliance with recordkeeping regulations.
  • Use company’s and customs broker’s operating systems to further enhance compliance related initiatives.
  • Duty Draw Back Program is a plus
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
  • Three to five years of experience in international shipping with an emphasis on U.S. imports.
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Working knowledge of the U.S. HTS its General Notes and Rules of Interpretation along with U.S. Customs rulings.
  • Enhanced working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
  • Desire to advance within the organization.
  • Experience in implementing and leading a U.S. Customs duty drawback program and a C-TPAT certification program desired.
  • Familiarity with the various U.S. Denied Party screening lists and processes by which entities are screened a plus.
  • Working knowledge of U.S. Customs’ ACE Secure Data Portal.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the letter of credit process and able to prepare presentations for submission to financial institutions.
  • Prior management experience preferred but not required.
