Job Description

BASIC DESCRIPTION:

The Industrial Equipment Division is seeking a Lab Technician with a strong mechanical background. The successful candidate will work closely with engineers and other lab technicians on product design, development, and support initiatives. This candidate will be involved with the construction of engineering prototype equipment, conducting engineering evaluations, reliability, and regulatory testing. He or she will also be responsible for maintaining applicable documentation.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Ability to read and understand schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Working closely with lead electrical and mechanical engineers, conduct the build of early prototype equipment including assembly of components, fabrication of sheet metal parts, construction and documentation of wire harnesses and interconnects, assembly of components, and instrumentation for engineering testing.
  • Run engineering tests (heat tests, VA curves, abnormal tests, reliability testing, new design verification testing).
  • Identify, diagnose, and resolve issues resulting from production, lab, and reliability testing.
  • Conduct IEC and CAN/CSA 60974-1, -5 tests and work with the Third-Party Coordinator to construct and create third party reports for regulatory certifications.
  • Collaboration with the Tech Pubs department, Engineering, Service, and Marketing teams to create and revise Owner’s Manuals, Technical Manuals, and Field Instructions.
  • Assistance with maintaining the lab area and improvements to the lab.

Job Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Two-year technical degree in electro-mechanical or related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in engineering product development and/or support is preferred.
  • Proven experience with use of standard lab equipment including oscilloscopes, function generators, power supplies, data acquisition systems, and torque tools.
  • Knowledge of mechanical assemblies and mechanism design is not required, but preferred.
  • Experience with metal fabrication tools; drill press, band saw, sheet metal shear, manual press break, lathe, and milling machines is a plus.
  • The individual should have a general understanding of power source phase control, and inverter topologies.
  • The ideal candidate will have first-hand knowledge of IEC and CSA certification requirements and hands-on experience with IEC and CSA testing and technical report preparation.
  • Candidate must be a team player with a positive attitude, high motivation and excellent interpersonal skills who works well in a business unit team environment with minimum supervision.
  • Understanding of Microsoft Word, Excel, Macola and ability to write accurate and concise reports is required. Limited travel may be required.
