Basic Description

The Human Resources Manager is responsible for supporting the day to day transactions and policy administration relating to all phases of the employee life cycle activities, such as recruitment, hiring, employee relations, compensation and benefits administration, onboarding, worker’s compensation administration, employee data maintenance, support, and general routine reporting and analysis.  Assists as needed in other areas of business/manufacturing.  Responsible for supporting 3-shift operation across multiple plants.

Essential Functions

  • Drives the intellectual capital process by building a leadership development pipeline through succession management and development.  Attracts, selects, and develops key talent to help shape the organization to fit with the current and future business needs.
  • Coordinates staffing for hourly production and production support roles, including:  managing staffing agency relationships, organizing and conducting new employee orientation; developing on-boarding plans, creating a positive first experience of the company and serves as a role model for ITW values.
  • Demonstrates and promotes team collaboration to engage employees at all levels.  Helps the management team build consensus through employee involvement activities.
  • Provides strong operational HR support to the Filler Metals division.
  • Possesses strong employment relations and conflict resolutions skills.
  • Creates an environment that values diverse backgrounds and perspective.  Fosters a climate of trust in the organization.
  • Creates, coordinates, and conducts management/employee training in topics including interview skills, performance management, safety, harassment, ITW Principles of Conduct, and ITW business policy guidelines.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the human resources operations policies, processes, and procedures.  Facilitates policy changes collaboratively and communications as appropriate.
  • Lives the ITW values by engendering trust with all stakeholders, demonstrates respect to people at all levels, operates with integrity in all dealings, and takes accountability.
  • Facilitates and coordinates employee meetings, employee communications, and organizational changes.
  • Maintains knowledge of legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting human resources functions and ensures policies, procedures, and reporting are in compliance.  Plays an active role in the development of the Affirmative Action Plan within business units.  Ensures compliance with required legal postings on bulletin boards.
  • Functions as an advisor to management team regarding the application of employment laws, regulations and corporate human resource policies to specific business decisions.
  • Coordinates with human resources director and business unit management to assist in the exempt recruiting process, interview scheduling, hiring process, applicant tracking and record keeping requirements.  Screens candidates, conducts interviews, and has authority to hire.
  • Inputs and maintains employee data in the HRIS system such as hires, promotions, transfers, performance reviews, terminations, and employee statistics for reporting.
  • Responds to inquiries regarding benefit programs and educates and supports employees in the use of the self-service applications available to them.
  • Conducts and analyzes wage survey data and ensures consistency in pay practices.
  • Supports and drives safety program enterprise-wide.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or Human Resources required.  PHR certification is a plus.
  • 5-7 years of experience in human Resources including knowledge of recruitment processes, employee relations, benefit and compensation administration and practices, and legal compliance requirements.
  • Strong written/verbal communication skills; demonstrates good listening skills; ability to share and learn from best practices, and responds clearly and timely to employee inquiries.  Demonstrates a positive and friendly attitude in working with all levels within the organization.
  • Independent and organized work style:  Effectively manages time and prioritizes work load, assumes and manages multiple talks without close supervision, adapts to change, and consistently meets deadlines.  Ability to make independent decisions and regularly suggest ways to improve services and processes.
  • Strong technical skills / aptitude:  Proficient in MS Office programs (Word, and Excel).  Experience in WorkDay HRIS System a preference.
  • Ability to use good judgment and discretion with highly confidential business and employee information.
