Job Description


This position provides day-to-day professional HR support and policy administration to businesses located in Hebron, IL, Elk Grove Village, IL, and Parma, OH.  The HR Generalist serves as a trusted advisor to the plant manager/site leader and carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas:  Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS), Employee Relations, Training and Development, Benefits, Wellness, Compensation, Performance and Talent Management, Recruiting, etc.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Acts as an advisor and provides technical expertise and analytical support in all aspects of the Human Resources function.
  • Partners with local management and functional leaders on organizational change efforts in support of division’s annual objectives, assisting with communication strategies and organizational design efforts.
  • Acts as employee engagement champion – coordinates the delivery of engagement survey, works with leadership to analyze results, and advises on action plans. Facilitates awareness of engagement and cultural opportunities within the business.
  • Supports the ITW performance management cycle, advising and coaching in areas of goal setting, mid-year feedback activities, annual performance review and the compensation planning process.
  • Serves as champion of the ITW Values, Leadership Expectations and the ITW Business Philosophies. 
  • Works with functional leaders to manage talent acquisition activities:  assesses staffing agencies, develops creative recruitment resources, supports talent upgrade efforts as necessary and advises on market compensation requirements.  Coordinates recruitment projects from job scoping activity to offer phase. 
  • Organizes and conducts new employee orientation; creates a positive first impression of the company and serves as a role model for ITW values.
  • Inputs and maintains employee data in the HRIS system such as hires, promotions, transfers, performance reviews, terminations, and employee statistics for reporting.  Prepares regular and special reports using HRIS.
  • Prepares employee communication documents including new hire, disability, benefit, separation notices and related documentation.  Assists in the discrimination and collection of data and forms.
  • Works with ITW corporate human resources or third-party providers, as necessary, in management of employee life cycle processes and transactions.
  • Works with corporate partners and division leadership on payroll Simplication project.
  • Coordinates management/employee training in topics including interview skills, performance management, giving feedback, professional conduct for the new supervisor, etc.
  • Manages compensation planning of all non-exempt production and technical roles using wage surveys. 
  • Maintains knowledge of legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting human resources functions and ensures policies, procedures and reporting are in compliance. Active role in development of Affirmative Action Plan within the division. Ensures compliance with required legal postings on bulletin boards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or similar field of study.
  • 1-3 years in HR support role, preferably in a manufacturing setting.
  • Strong business partnership capabilities:  Ability to learn and adapt to our changing business, help assess talent, and become familiar with our industry and its implications for our division.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce results within a team environment, to develop relationships at all levels, and to appropriately challenge or influence decisions.
  • Strong coaching and influence skills for managers and supervisors across various functions.
  • Detailed-oriented, focused on continuous improvement, process orientation, and compliance.
  • Strong written/verbal communication skills; demonstrates good listening skills; able to communicate status on process with colleagues, keep team members informed, and responds clearly to employee inquiries. Demonstrates a positive friendly attitude in working with all levels within the organization.
  • Independent and organized work style:  effectively manages and prioritizes workload, assume and manage multiple tasks without close supervision, adapt to change, and consistently meet deadlines.  Ability to make independent decisions and regularly suggest ways to improve services and processes.
  • Strong technical skills/aptitude: Proficiency in MS Office programs (Word and Excel).  Experience with HRIS systems (Workday).
  • Ability to use good judgment and discretion with highly confidential business and employee information.
  • Ability to travel 20% locally to Elk Grove Village, IL, occasionally to Parma, OH, position will be based in Hebron, IL (near Lake Geneva, WI).
