Brooks Instrument (, an industry leader in flow and pressure instrumentation for critical applications, is seeking candidates for a Global Finance Controller.  This position will be based out of our worldwide headquarters in Hatfield, PA (Suburban Philadelphia).  The company has manufacturing, sales and service offices located around the world.  Our products are used in laboratory and process applications in end markets such as: life sciences, petrochemical, semiconductor, LED, alternative energy, and analytical instruments.

Position Summary

Reporting to the VP & GM, the Global Finance Controller is responsible for all aspects of the Finance functions for the business on a global basis.  The role encompasses leading the accounting, reporting, and internal control functions of the business as well as providing strategic business insight to the senior management team.  This position represents an opportunity for a proven leader to position themselves for career growth through leveraging his / her leadership skills, functional expertise, and business acumen to contribute to a profitable, execution and market-focused organization.
He / She will work collaboratively via internal matrix relationships with key support functions including Business Unit Management, Operations, Engineering, Customer Service, Human Resources, and Sales.  The use of proprietary ITW Continuous Improvement Processes and Key Performance Metrics (KPM’s) will be required to ensure consistent achievement of business targets.  Most importantly, the Global Finance Controller is responsible for building, coaching and developing a strong team that can help the company to achieve both short and long-term objectives of the organization.


2 U.S. based and 2 non U.S. based direct reports located in the Netherlands and South Korea, plus an indirect team that includes 8 U.S. based and 14 non U.S. based employees located in 6 different Countries.

Essential Functions

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual consolidated financial statements and reports in support of the Brooks management team.  
  • Work with senior management to develop the key metrics to measure the performance of the business and then accurately and consistently report on the agreed metrics in a timely manner.
  • Consistently ensure the financial reporting requirements of ITW are met in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Establish processes for the Brooks finance staff around the world to coordinate all financial and business activity reporting in a consistent manner.
  • Verify that global finance staff is fully trained on ITW financial policies and that all Brooks' businesses remain in full compliance with ITW's financial policies.
  • Manage the global budget and financial forecasting process in an efficient and detailed manner. 
  • Assist each of the business units with annual and long-range planning requirements with ultimate responsibility for the consolidated Brooks financials.
  • Strong technical and practical knowledge of GAAP accounting.
  • Responsible for compiling and communicating relevant financial information to key decision makers in the business to facilitate efficient management of the business.
  • Conduct departmental and entity budget versus actual reviews on a regular basis, with an objective to monitor and control spending and measuring departmental/regional performance versus goals.
  • Partner with the Operations team to ensure effective management of material planning, purchasing, inventory level setting, grading and dispositions in line with ITW/Brooks objectives.  This includes working closely to support the physical inventory process.
  • Assist with the acquisition of additional entities in Brooks' market segments including modeling, negotiation, diligence, transaction and integration.
  • Assist the global business entities with contract reviews and negotiating contracts.
  • Assist in implementing ITW's process improvement toolbox program (80/20) within the business.  This includes, identifying improvement opportunities, and leading improvement teams.
  • Drive collaboration with other internal departments and business units to establish programs and capabilities that drive business result improvements and operational efficiencies.
  • Integrate best practice across Brooks to ensure the best use of effective tools, techniques and processes.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop talent within Brooks.  Collaborate with other Brooks, ITW segment and corporate leaders to enable robust career paths, and build a diverse, high performing organization.
  • Travel domestically and internationally on an as needed basis.
Ideal Experience
  • Professional Experience - Minimum 10 years of business experience of which 5 years have been in progressively responsible financial leadership or controllership roles.  Ideally this experience will be with a manufacturing company.
  • Functional Experience - Finance leader with a track record of effectiveness in developing consolidated financial statements and reports as well as managing internal controls.  Should have excellent accounting knowledge, analytical skills, and be computer literate in all respects.
  • Project Management - Strong understanding of system development and implementation lifecycles.  Proven track record of successfully managing cross-functional projects.
  • Global Experience - Demonstrated ability in providing oversight for professional staff in domestic and international locations.  This includes not only managing people, but proven ability to lead in multi-location / multi-currency reporting environments, and experience with topics such as transfer pricing.
  • Industry Experience - Familiarity with the instrumentation industry and / or experience in a high precision, engineered, electromechanical products environment is desirable.
  • Education - A bachelor's degree preferably in a business, finance, accounting, or technical discipline is required.  A CPA, CMA and / or MBA or other advanced degree is strongly preferred.
