Job Description

ITW Specialty Films designs, manufactures and markets specialized coated and/or metalized films for the Transaction Card, Security Documents, Medical IV bags, and Consumer Packaging markets.  The division leverages unique core competencies and technologies in films, foils, laminates, holography and transfers to address customer needs globally.  ITW Specialty Films operates in 13 locations in North America, Europe and Asia.


We are looking for an enthusiastic intern to join our finance team during the summer of 2019.  The internship will run May through August (flexible start and end dates).  As part of the ITW Specialty Films Finance team, the Accounting/Finance intern will perform a wide variety of financial responsibilities based on the needs and resources available as the organization continues to integrate globally.  


There will be four effective themes of entry level assimilation as seen through the lens of an Operating Unit:

  • Compliance (Financial-GAAP, SEC, Governmental, Internal and ITW corporate policy).

  • Reporting (Month-End Close, Mid-Month Forecasting, Quarterly Bridges) - tasks and deadlines.

  • Analysis ('consulting' services provided to functional departments & managers in support of their business decisions).

  • Enterprise Strategy (finance role in encouraging the organization to execute strategies for shareholder growth).

This internship will help you grow your professional skills and broaden your experience as you contribute to the finance group and our company-wide goals.

Examples of Processes you may participate in:

  • Assist in preparation of annual plan, long range plan, monthly outlooks, quarterly review and other analysis

  • Participate in various audits as required by ITW policy and Division Peer reviews: internal financial, capital expenditure, fixed asset.

  • Perform monthly margin analysis and Bill of Material (BOM) reviews for accuracy and profitability. 

  • Participate in Toolbox & Strategic sourcing reviews / corporate reporting.

  • Assist in monthly & mid-month global consolidation reporting.

  • Assist in execution of Business Intelligence Tool (Data warehouse) project for the Division.

  • Assist in Sales Reporting and automation efforts of report delivery.

  • Support data collection for improved closing process & CRM software.

Job Requirements

What we are looking for:

  • Rising junior or senior pursuing a Bachelors’ Degree in Accounting, who has maintained a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA and will be graduating in either May 2020 or December 2019.

  • Critical Thinking & Decision Making: Ability to make logical and sound decisions and to know when to act independently and when to seek assistance.

  • Curiosity & Learning Orientation:  Actively identifying new areas for learning and applying newly gained knowledge/skill on the job.

  • Drive to Excel:  Driven to succeed and willing to go the extra mile.  Perseveres in the face of obstacles and challenges.

  • Interpersonal Skills & communication:  Ability to work collaboratively and partner well with others, express oneself verbally and in writing, and listen well.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of cost accounting is a plus.

  • Intermediate to expert proficiency in MS Excel

  • Understanding of general accounting concepts; knowledge of debits/credits, assets/liabilities, depreciation, Balance Sheet and P&L

  • Ability to perform general mathematical calculations to create needs assessments, budgets and forecasting.
  • Strong Analytics
  • Strong attention to detail and completes tasks in a timely manner.
