Job Description

The Field Technical Support Specialist will play a key role in emerging welding technologies from the Industrial Platform including Welding Equipment, Filler Metals and Torches for hard and flexible automation customers by supplementing our existing world-class Technical Support team. This position will work closely with our Key Account Managers to identify welding applications where we are able to clearly demonstrate the value of ITW Welding system solutions. As opportunities are identified and pursued, this person will serve as a technical resource to our end users and sales team throughout the selling process and initial installation of the solution. This position will also provide follow-up system support and troubleshooting to ensure our end users realize the full value of the system solution. Additionally, this person will play a key role in developing subsequent applications of these technologies.

The ideal candidate for this position will have a strong technical background, be mechanically inclined and have a desire to work directly with end users and support our sales team. This position may also need to make some international trips periodically – including, but not limited to Canada, Mexico, Asia and/or Europe. A company truck, phone, laptop and tool kit will be provided. Relocation assistance may also be provided.   

The skills obtained from this position will provide a strong foundation for future technical and sales focused roles within the ITW Welding organization.

Job Requirements

Provide system-level technical process support and troubleshooting.

• Work closely with divisional leadership to demonstrate customer value through trials and system installations, working with others as needed from product management, sales, engineering, R & D, process development, training, service, and operations from Hobart, Miller Welding Automation (MWA), Tregaskiss, and Miller Industrial Equipment to ensure successful results at target customer accounts.

• Work closely with Corporate Account Managers and Process Improvement Specialists

  in the application of the technologies at key segment accounts.

• Work closely with Key end users to evaluate and optimize their product selection, usage and    applications.

• Ability to troubleshoot and repair MGD products in the field

• Deliver product, application and/or repair training for end users, distributors and ITW Welding employees as needed.

• Provide after-sale technical field support for target customers as required.

• Provide customer training on new technology as required.

• Participate in further development and testing of advanced welding solutions.    

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Engineering, Welding, or related technical field and

  relevant work experience.

• Strong working knowledge of welding processes commonly used in flexible and hard

  automation.

• Previous experience with integrated robotic welding systems and industrial controls is preferred.

• High personal confidence and ability to be assertive when necessary. Can be direct as

  well as diplomatic, handle conflict effectively and be able to tactfully say “no.”

• Technical aptitude and mechanically inclined.

• Must be a team player with a positive attitude, high motivation, and solid decision-

  making abilities.

• Well organized, aggressive self-starter with the willingness to learn and grow.

• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

• Ability to build or leverage existing relationships among employees, distributors, and

  key end-users.

• Comfortable presenting and facilitating before groups.

• Ability to succeed in a fast-moving environment that values an entrepreneurial spirit.

• Expected travel is up to 60%.
