Position Summary:

An Enterprise Architect (EA) takes a company's business strategy and defines software and IT architectures to support that strategy. This is a hands-on technical position where the individual participates with members of the team in architectural discussions and implementing architectural projects. As an Enterprise Architect, you must be able to handle multiple projects, be innovative, and be able to communicate effectively across multiple departments in different degrees of technical detail.

The focus is on defining the relationships, flows and implementation of business (processes/activities/functions, information), applications, data and technology in the enterprise and the transitional processes necessary for implementing technology in response to changing business needs.

The Enterprise Architect role includes the development of current state and future state business, data, application and technical models and then the development of a transition plan for moving from the current state to the future state environment. Also important is the linkage of the EA with strategic planning, performance management, program management, and investment management.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Create and enforce architectural standards and principles that enable products to interoperate.
  • Ensure that software features and components appear and behave consistently.
  • Apply software, data and infrastructure knowledge expertise of current and future architecture to projects
  • Collaborate with members of Agile Sprint teams to ensure consistency and success (Product Owners, Engineers, QA, UI/UX).

  • Participate in Agile ceremonies such as Sprint Planning, Retrospectives and Backlog Grooming to effectively communicate with team members and stakeholders.
  • Determine which applications can be retired, consolidated, or migrated to the cloud (Portfolio Rationalization).
  • Manage technology strategy and roadmap to influence decision making; perform R&D as necessary.
  • Assure and audit that architecture principles and standards are applied consistently
  • Comfortable working with little to no supervision and providing supervision to other engineers
  • Serves as a subject matter expert for architectural frameworks, methods and tools; educates software development staff in architecture disciplines and assists in their application.
  • Ensure that software platforms implement evolutionary architectures that support incremental, guided change as a first principle across multiple dimensions
  • Assists in problem solving, resolving design disputes, and making tradeoffs.
  • Creates a vision and plans for evolutionary paths and development roadmaps. Plans for new technology insertions.
  • Identifies and manages risks and develops strategies to mitigate risks with the architecture.
  • Work with stakeholders including leadership, subject matter experts, and customers
  • Collaborates with stakeholders, including leadership and subject matter experts, to build a holistic view of the innovation strategies in alignment with business objectives.
  • Understands customer's requirements, current/future IT infrastructure, application framework, business opportunities and vision to guide the architecture; owns the architecture and works with development staff on project/feature implementation.
  • Proactively introduces new technology solutions for current business problems and keeps abreast of new and emerging technologies.
  • Provides leadership in software/system implementation efforts and facilitate project communications between internal and external customers and vendors.
  • Provides input and support to developing software roadmaps to facilitate solution delivery.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or Computer Science required; Master’s Degree preferred.
  • 7+ years of related experience with 3 years in a CAD-based software environment
  • Proven success leading software development teams in an Agile/Scrum environment
  • Proven experience establishing and maintaining architectural standards and principles
  • Experience designing and implementing service-oriented and evolutionary architectures
  • Strong understanding of Agile/Lean development methodologies
  • Solid foundation of architecture models, database platforms and modern infrastructure topologies
  • Experience with legacy systems and complex technical environments using multiple technologies and languages.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Ability to communicate at a technical, business, or executive level.
  • Ability to understand business objectives and translate into architectural deliverables.
  • Thorough knowledge of data, infrastructure and programming concepts.
  • Experience in multi-platform infrastructure distributed environments.
  • Advanced problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively with other departments to achieve complex business needs.
  • Ability to adapt to other working styles, organize, lead, and influence others.
  • Ability to adapt in a dynamic work environment
  • Ability to work individually or in a team environment
  • Strong conceptual, analytical and decision-making skills
  • Strong understanding of ALM/Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment tools and technologies

  • Positive, collaborative, can-do attitude a must
  • Well-versed in object-oriented and functional design paradigms
  • Experienced with Microsoft technologies and programming languages such as .NET C#, C++, Java, JavaScript frameworks (Angular, NodeJS, ReactJS, etc.)
