Engineering Manager

Are you looking for an engaging work environment, interesting assignments, an inclusive culture and an opportunity to be a part of a growing business?  If so, we are seeking an Engineering Manager for the Warewash/Waste Business Division of ITW Food Equipment Group in Troy, Ohio, located 20 minutes north of the Dayton metropolitan area. 

Who are we and what do we do?

Illinois Tool Works (ITW) is a Fortune 200 diversified manufacturing company with seven decentralized business segments, which includes the Food Equipment Group (FEG). The Warewash Business Division, one of the businesses within FEG, is growing in existing served markets as well as new markets.  We produce Hobart and Somat branded commercial dishwashers, waste equipment and disposers that are used in hotels, casinos, restaurants, cruise ships, schools and universities, retail and government.  


This position provides leadership and direction for engineering projects by effectively leading and participating in cross-functional engineering teams (mechanical, electrical, and software) as well as marketing and sourcing.  The responsibilities also include the development of schedules, cost estimates, and specifications. The candidate will encourage a high level of engineering skill within the team and ensure timely completion of project deliverables within scope and budget.


What you will do:

  • Design and develop innovative products and features, to enhance Hobart Warewash products

  • Work closely with other Engineering Managers, Project Leaders, Product Managers to create design specs for new product development and enhancements

  • Support designs with engineering theory and practice as well as reviews to evaluate conformance to engineering principles, customer requirements, quality standards and manufacturability

  • Manage all projects through a Stage-Gate process

  • Complete projects to schedule through coordination with engineering, manufacturing and marketing

  • Investigate new technologies and coordinate with outside research firms and universities to support advanced developments, as required

  • Talent management to include performance evaluations, talent development, salary reviews and coaching for an engineering team

  • Provide solutions to complex engineering problems

Job Requirements

What we are looking for:

  • Solid design engineering experience with experience of solving complex problems

  • Strong attention to detail and effective communications (both written and oral)

  • Strong analytical and design skills

  • 3D design experience using SolidWorks or equivalent

  • Creative and innovative skills

  • Ability to travel 15%

Minimum qualifications:

  • BS in Engineering (Mechanical preferred); MS or MBA, preferred

  • 5+ years of successful engineering project leadership that include increasing responsibilities over time

  • Strong mathematical, analytical and design skills

  • Strong presentation skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working with global operations

  • 2+ years managing technical professionals
