Job Description

Role Summary: To define the process steps, manufacturing systems and equipment and tooling standards for the different product lines in alignment with EF&C guidelines / standards where applicable.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Follow all HS&E policies and procedures. Perform all responsibilities in a manner that observes all safety guidelines.

  • Collect Information from the different process/products in order to keep the data base updated and define our process capabilities, including engineering changes where the process is affected.

  • Develop the manufacturing concept, manufacturing plan and cost estimation for new projects and their Industrialization using GDPIM and QSYS, in collaboration with Sales / Product Engineering / Program Management. Champion New projects from the Plant perspective, meeting customer and budget requirements and transitioning them to the Plant Operations Team.

  • Define process and equipment standards.

  • Champion Plant Capacity Assessments for both tooling and machine, evaluating the needs to create a unique system to provide answers to interested parties regarding capacity availability working in collaboration with the Materials group.

  • Evaluate the skills of our molding, assembly, tooling, automation, and manufacturing specialists and define a training plan to upgrade them to the knowledge level required.

  • Deploy the process and equipment standards and share best practices throughout the Plant.

  • Develop Continuous Improvement activities and deploy the Operations Excellence Roadmap to achieve process optimization.

  • Act as the Key interface between the plant, Detroit based program manager and the divisional product design engineering functions and activities.

  • Responsible for overseeing departmental and program budgets. Responsible for the Plant Capital Budget preparation and execution.

  • Work with the engineering team to develop preventive maintenance of equipment, troubleshooting guides for all new and existing plant equipment, and ensure that they are manufactured and delivered to specification.

  • Be the key plant resource / leader in the development of automation for the entire plant.

  • Work with the product development team; be the key plant resource for support, direction, and implementation of new materials and processes in the manufacturing plant. This includes designing and conducting experiments to test and develop new materials, equipment, and processes.

  • Follow all company policies and procedures. Keep work place clean and organized and practice good housekeeping

  • Compares performance with operating plans and standards. 

  • Provides reports and interprets the results of operations to all levels of management. 

  • Coordinates and directs the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts, institutes and maintains other planning and control procedures (including the cost accounting system), and analyzes and reports variances. 

  • Authorizes expenditures in accordance with budget.

  • Able to consult with engineering staff and other technical personnel on complex and unusual problems. Follow through on planning, oversee testing procedures, analysis of results and the development of new applications.

  • Collaboration and strong communication skills with all levels of the organization (Customer, Sales and Product Engineering Team, Plant Operations and Advanced Manufacturing Organization).

  • Sense of urgency and good prioritization skills to discriminate the important from the urgent and meet deadlines.

  • Strong Financial acumen and an understanding of financial concepts, including: capital justification, cost avoidance vs. cost reduction, budget control, direct variable cost, etc.

Job Requirements


Education & Experience:

  • B.S. in Plastics / Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent education and experience required.  (M.S. in Engineering or MBA preferred.)

  • 5 years of practical experience in a responsible capacity in such areas as product development, tooling and facilities and manufacturing engineering for plastic components.

  • Evidence of applicability of Lean Manufacturing Practices (5’s, Value Stream Mapping, Kan Ban, Poka yoke, Just In Time, etc.)

  • Special background within the Automotive Interior trim tooling and process technologies is desired.

  • Must have proven managerial experience, among professional people, and involving complex projects and budgets.

  • Experience and background knowledge in ISO/TS standard is strongly recommended.

  • Clear understanding of APQP, FMEA, Statistical concepts (Six-Sigma Black Belt highly desirable).  

  • Required to have an awareness of and comply with environmental, health and safety policies as related to the job function.  Support organizational environmental objectives as defined by ISO 14001.

  • Travel is required, as necessary to perform the job functions.

 Physical Requirements:

  • Must be visually able to use data entry terminal for extended periods

  • Light physical effort in using PC keyboard, handling department reports, etc.

  • Must be able to sit for extended periods of time

  • Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs.
