Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering


10+ years of mechanical engineering competency

Food equipment experience

Proven strong leader

Mentor to engineers

Autodesk Inventor experience a plus but not required

SaaS experience is a plus but not required

IoT device connectivity experience preferred

Microsoft Azure IoT Central experience preferred

Microsoft Azure Cosmos database experience preferred

Position Summary:

This position is for the person who knows how to be strategically positioned as the leader in new product development and who can be the manager to develop the engineers in the engineering department.

This position manages all activities of the engineering department and directs department activities through subordinates, to deliver innovative technologies, design new products, modify existing designs, and develop test procedures. Maintain a full pipeline of innovation looking 3 years forward. Analyze technology trends, human resource needs, and market demand to plan projects and will confer with management, production, and marketing staff to determine engineering feasibility, cost effectiveness, and customer demand for new and existing products. Forecasts operation costs of department and directs preparation of budget requests. Directs personnel activities of department, such as recruitment, hiring, performance evaluations, and salary adjustments and may direct field testing of products and systems performed by field staff. This person must be a technical authority and subject expert on all current and future products.

Job Requirements

Scope and Function:

• Provide leadership and direction of higher-level projects by mentoring, guiding and providing technical leadership to achieve the highest quality of performance for products and services in support of business objectives

• Provide technical leadership, oversight, and audit of all engineering projects

• Provide advanced technical leadership in their field of expertise and/or complex project guidance to project teams as assigned

• Responsible for multiple project budget in relation to department budget as assigned

• Responsible for ITW Stage Gate Process

• Ownership and project management responsibility for customization programs with key customers

Responsibilities (80% Core Essential Functions):

• Stay abreast of the state-of-the-art knowledge within field of expertise

• Provide detailed reports and/or presentations on key activities, strategies, technologies etc

• Stay abreast of competitive intellectual property and develop competing strategies

• Provide guidance for product development architecture

• Recommend and seat new technologies

• Lead and provide technical guidance to project teams as required

• Apply advanced engineering theory and practices, along with experience, to complex designs

• Develop and implement project plans for major activities

• Work closely with marketing to define project objectives

• Recognize opportunity and develop and define technical strategies to support the Business Unit

• Prepare comprehensive technical reports as required

• May function as an individual contributor to successfully complete complex specific technical assignments

• Understand reliability growth curves and statistical analysis

• Coordinate outside research on major technical development projects

• Direct and assess project designs to ensure efficient manufacturability

• Support and drive enterprise strategies

• Define and drive value engineering projects

Responsibilities (20% Business Specific Functions)

• Direct or participate in continuous improvement activities

• AOP (Annual Operating Plan) and LRP (Long-range Plan) participation

• Review of product variation requests and pricing them according to ITW guidelines

• Financial acumen with the ability to establish and work from a budget

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:

•              Travel less than 25% of the time
