BASIC DESCRIPTION:

ITW Welding continues to build its capabilities in embedded systems development as a core competency in digitally controlled welding equipment, processes, and systems. To support the effort, we are looking for an experienced electrical engineer to play a key role on New Product Development initiatives for industrial based welding and heating equipment. The electrical engineer will be a key contributor in the investigation, development, and implementation of hardware and software solutions for new and innovative industrial products with primary focus on embedded controls, networking, and human-machine interfaces. This individual will also help lead common best practices on product development projects and strategic software initiatives to accelerate the New Product Development lifecycle. This position requires a highly motivated individual with exceptional communications and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with engineering teams, marketing, and product management to develop innovative and reliable products to serve our customer needs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Effectively work with power electronics, mechanical, and welding engineers to take projects from original concept through implementation.

  • Working with a sense of urgency while balancing calculated risks.

  • Primary responsibilities include design, development, and test of embedded device systems for the Industrial Equipment Division’s New Product Development initiatives.A critical part of this role is integrating embedded controls to achieve arc characteristics that continue delivering world-class arc welding performance.

  • Recommend and act to direct the analysis and solutions of problems.

  • Participate in hardware design/software programming, and development of divisional projects.

  • Participate in project meetings and be responsible for assigned action items.

  • Ensure adherence to quality standards and project deliverables.

  • Identify innovative patentable solutions to end market needs.

Job Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, with a minimum of 5-years of industry experience.

  • Understanding of electrical circuity design for both digital and analog applications.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in embedded system development including system architecture, component selection, schematic capture, PCB layout, thermal management, design for manufacturability and assembly (DFMA), system troubleshooting and failure analysis.

  • Proven proficiency with circuit modeling/simulation tools and PCB design software along with the use of oscilloscopes, function generators, power supplies, and standard lab equipment is required.

  • Experience in mixed-signal embedded control systems design. Embedded controls design and signal conditioning for high-speed/precision signals in a power conversion setting, signaling across multiple insulation boundaries, local power supply design for today’s high-speed processors and communications systems.

  • Experience in selecting, designing, and troubleshooting DSP and/or microprocessor and microcontroller-based hardware to support an embedded system.

  • This individual must be self-starter and have strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Candidate must be a team player with a positive attitude.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS A PLUS:

  • Experience with C, C++, and object-oriented coding techniques for 8, 16, and 32-bit processors.

  • Familiarity with serial communication protocols such as SPI, USB, RS485, Ethernet/IP, etc.

  • Experience in VHDL or Verilog for embedded control and/or power conversion.

Experience in designing in a power conversion application; power supplies, motor drives, uninterruptible power sources, etc.
