The Chemist will report to the Division R&D Manager and will be responsible for formulating and improving chemical products and processes by conducting research, analysis, synthesis and experimentation for the Non-Destructive Testing market and other industrial specialty use. This position is based in DeWitt, IA. 


Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop new products to improve the company’s standing in target markets.  Formulate/reformulate products as needed.
  • Determine product specifications by studying consumer requirements; conferring with management and other appropriate staff. 
  • Provide procedures, specifications, and training to aid in the manufacture and testing of new products.
  • Provide technical support to company personnel and customers.
  • Evaluate competitive materials as a means of assessing comparative advantages and disadvantages of the current product line.
  • Evaluate and specify new or alternate raw materials for new and existing products.
  • Evaluate “greener” or more environmentally friendly opportunities for existing products.
  • Manage internal non-conformances such as batch or raw material deficiencies.
  • Maintain organization’s stability and reputation by complying with government regulations.  Incorporate necessary measures to meet regulatory requirements into product and process development.
  • Additional duties and tasks as assigned.

Job Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required in chemistry, chemical engineering or biology and up to 3 years relevant work experience. Previous internship and industrial lab experience required. Experience in NDT or industrial chemistry preferred.
  • Must be proficient in MS Office Suite.
  • Familiarity with oils, petroleum products, surfactants, cleaners, and other industrial chemicals.
  • Familiarity with analytical methods and other instrumentation.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. Able to interface and provide guidance to other personnel in the organization as well as provide technical support to customers.
  • Sufficient math skills and able to handle mathematical calculations when requested.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities independently.
  • Ability to formulate experiments and research projects independently and clearly explain outcomes, failures, and discrepancies.
  • Minimal travel required.
