Position Overview:

This successful, entry level Buyer position will primarily be responsible for purchasing and sourcing functions associated with the industrial line of E.H. Wachs weld prepping and cutting tools. This is an important role that works closely with the entire purchasing team, operations staff, inventory control personnel, and suppliers to manage inventory quantities and maintain component stocking levels for optimal production flow.

Buyers consider price, quality, availability, reliability, and technical support when choosing suppliers and merchandise. They try to get the best deal for their company, meaning the highest quality goods and services at the lowest possible cost to their companies. In order to accomplish this successfully, buyers study sales records and inventory levels of current stock, identify foreign and domestic suppliers, and keep abreast of changes affecting both the supply of, and demand for, needed products and materials. To be effective, buyers must have a working technical knowledge of the goods or services to be purchased.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Setup and maintain purchasing item attributes.
  • Place purchase orders for a variety of components and assemblies.
  • Work closely with vendors to stay on top of expedited delivery dates and delivery date changes.
  • Track vendor performance, maintain vendor relationships, negotiate purchasing terms, establish blanket order agreements, and keep track of vendor stocking initiatives.
  • Properly source and obtain competitive quotations from a targeted list of potential suppliers based on a sound understanding of both component fabrication requirements and vendor capabilities.
  • Manage part nonconformance issue identification and resolution with vendors.
  • Continually evaluate cost and delivery performance in order to identify opportunities to pursue alternative sources for supplies ensuring high component quality assurance and cost effectiveness.
  • Identify purchasing process inefficiencies and opportunities to streamline the overall procurement system.
  • Required to adhere and comply with state and federal law, the ISO Quality program and procedures, and the safety program.

Job Requirements

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • Familiarity with machined, welded, and fabricated components and/or systems.

  • Ability to read blueprints

  • Excellent verbal, written, and listening communication skills with an emphasis on phone skills are a must.

  • Aptitude with detailed computer programs especially Microsoft Excel and data manipulation within an ERP software program.

  • Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills related to uncovering root causes to problems and identifying actionable solutions.

  • Must be a team player that works well with others.

  • Disciplined personality that seeks structure and standardization with self-driven organization and time-management skills.
