Job Description

Focus on building and maintaining a safe and healthy working environment that complies with local, state and federal regulations. Support EHS Manager in the assessment and control of health and environmental hazards in the workplace. Support efforts toward a proactive safety culture. Responsible for administrative tasks related to environmental, health, and safety function. Translate and interpret written and oral communication related to EHS (Spanish or Vietnamese)

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Maintain environmental, health and safety policies/procedures under the guidance of EHS Manager
  • Identify safety hazards, unsafe conditions or behavior, and make recommendations for preventive/corrective actions
  • Assist in incident and near miss investigations, using root cause analysis
  • Complete and maintain JSAs in collaboration with operators and supervisors, make recommendations for hazard control, and assist with implementation
  • Plan, Schedule, and facilitate safety, health and environmental training
  • Assist with air, energy, water and waste management, including SWPPP rain water collection on site
  • Track and report EHS metrics and ensure compliance with local, state and federal regulations for environmental and safety areas. Track leading indicator
  • Participate in the development of short and long term EHS goals
  • Support EHS Manager with safety committee, plant inspections, and implementation of solutions to findings and opportunities for improvement
  • Act as medical first responder
  • Keep up to date with knowledge of industry standards, OSHA and EPA regulations
  • Participate in any special assignments or projects relating to EHS and HR

Job Requirements

EDUCATION

  • Associate Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Business Administration, or other related field
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Engineering, Psychology, or Industrial Behavior desired
  • Certifications from OSHA Training Institute and EPA desired

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bi-lingual Spanish or Vietnamese required
  • Prior experience of environmental, health and safety in a manufacturing setting preferred
  • Proficient PC skills (MS Office)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong planning/organization and time management skills
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills
  • First-Aid, AED and CPR training a plus

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to:

  • Perform activities including bending, stooping, standing, walking
  • Stand and walk from four (4) to six (6) hours per day
  • Climb up and down stairs four (4) to six (6) times per day
  • Operate common office equipment, i.e. PC, phone, copier, printer, fax
  • Use various measuring instruments, i.e. tape measure, noise level reader
  • Handle chemicals used in SWPPP
  • Must be able to act as medical first aid responder
  • Work in climate controlled environment
  • Work occasionally outdoors in temperatures ranging from hot to cold and exposed to rain and wind
  • Travel infrequently by various means of transportation, including car, train, bus, plane
