Title: Automation Technician II    ITW – EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER

Division Description:

ITW Automotive Body & Fuel NA serves all major OEMs and their tier suppliers with plastic injection body & interior parts and refueling & recharging access systems. Plant sites include: Frankfort, IL; Mokena, IL and Richton Park, IL.


The Automation Technician II will report to the Production Manager and will be responsible to perform duties to install, maintain, modify and repair a wide variety of automation projects, assembly devices and other production equipment. Responsible for project management of new production equipment’s, robotic and automation projects, robotic programming and PLC controls for new & existing equipment developments. Work with builders, designers, engineers and vendors to design develop and install automated equipment to meet production improvements and our customer’s needs.


 Following blueprints or engineering specifications for installation and repairs

 Programming of automation equipment

 Detecting errors/troubleshooting equipment based on its mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic qualities

 Coordinating on-site installation by examining building and equipment layouts and anticipating difficulties and challenges

 Work with manufacturing on continuous improvement projects

 Providing training and technical support to the maintenance staff

 Comply with OSHA and other regulatory agencies in the design, repair and installation of all automated equipment

 Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair a variety of molding and automated machinery using available technology

 Hands on experience with 3 & 6 axis, Fanuc, Allen-Bradley, Sepro and Whittman equipment

 Other tasks and duties as assigned


 Minimum of two-year degree in Industrial Technology or equivalent certification

 Minimum of 3 years of work experience in the automation/robotics field, preferred

 Computer, electrical, electronic, and mechanical skills

 Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

 Excellent oral and written communication

 Experience working with computers (VB, .net, etc.) PLC operations and programming, robotics programming, vision systems design and programming a plus

 Hands on experience with Allen-Bradley PLC equipment preferred

Physical Demands:

 Must have excellent near vision for accessing functionality of equipment

 Must be able to bend, stoop, reach, push, pull, climb, crawl, get on and off machines, stand for extended periods of time

 Must be able to lift up to 65 pounds

 Specific vision abilities required for this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus
