Basic Description:

The Automation Systems Product Manager will manage MWA (Miller Welding Automation) product platforms and provide communication to the sales team, integration partners and distributors. The successful individual will be part of an Automation Systems-focused team that will include both process and product development resources, as well as marketing personnel who will assist with go to market strategy and implementation for emerging and existing welding automation technologies. This individual will be responsible for the growth and market performance of these product platforms through several key objectives. This position can be located in either Appleton, WI or Carol Stream, IL.

Essential Functions:

  • Be a key leader in the Automation Systems Go-to-Market (GTM) strategy to:

    • Screen and partner with strategic customers

    • Develop and maintain unique selling strategy

    • Manage System information: customer status, prospects, system performance, market needs

    • Represent business at customer visits, industry conferences and tradeshows

    • Define and communicate data-driven value propositions for products and category

  • Develop and own strategic product roadmap for Automation System products, driving sustainable and profitable growth of said products.

  • Play a key role in coordinating the introduction and growth of a revolutionary system technology developed by an ITW welding team from Miller, Hobart, Miller Welding Automation, Tregaskiss, and for flexible automation customers.

  • Collect and synthesize customer insights (VOC) and competitive intelligence through customer interviews, market research, and channel knowledge.

  • Responsible for successful launch and commercialization of new products.

  • Use creative tactics to communicate and promote new products to both end users and channel partners.

  • Responsible for the identification and qualification of customer opportunities and coordination with appropriate business units and field sales teams, to trial and install Automation Systems that deliver on the system value proposition

  • Manage all requests for application of the technology from Automation Specialists, Corporate Account Managers, Process Improvement Specialists, key account managers and customers using a disciplined approach to determine feasibility and strategic fit

  • Coordinate and support customer installations, working with other business units as needed, to ensure successful results at customer accounts

  • Provide technical field support for target customers as required

  • Act as liaison with Miller, Hobart, MWA, Tregaskiss, and Regional Sales Teams to communicate and deliver new and existing product solutions that maintain market leadership, influencing across multiple functional areas including, marketing, product management, engineering, manufacturing, purchasing, training, service, field support, and operations

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required with 5+ years of industry experience (Welding, or related field and relevant work experience preferred)

  • Strong business acumen and analytical skills; MBA preferred

  • Strong welding industry background with flexible automation experience highly preferred; familiar with key welding automation industry players including systems integrators, OEMs, and channel distributors.

  • Demonstrated success in leading high-level projects & cross functional teams from start to finish

  • Solid understanding of welding technology and associated value propositions:

    • Weld processes

    • Equipment solutions including power sources, guns/torches, robotics, and fixed automation

    • Strong understanding of metal core wire benefits and performance—the Advanced Automation Systems rely on metal core wire to deliver maximum value to the customer

  • High personal confidence and ability to be assertive when necessary. Can be direct as well as diplomatic, handle conflict effectively and be able to tactfully say “no.”

  • Proven ability to analyze current business issues, end-user needs

  • Technical aptitude and mechanically inclined

  • Must be a team player with a positive attitude, high motivation, and solid decision-making abilities

  • Well organized, aggressive self-starter with the willingness to learn and grow.

  • Ability to establish plans based independently with limited direction or supervision.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to build or leverage existing relationships among employees, supplier and channel partners, and key end-users

  • Comfortable presenting and facilitating before groups

  • Ability to succeed in a fast-moving environment that values an entrepreneurial spirit

  • Expected travel is up to 40%
