Job Title: Automation Engineer

Reports to: Engineering Manager

Role Summary: Primary responsibilities for the development, establishment, documentation and execution of the automation strategy for the manufacturing operation, including integration with the injection molding equipment and independent assembly requirements. Also, responsible for developing strategy, plan and schedule for executing error proofing and inspection systems to support 0-PPM requirement by our Customers. In addition, responsible for normal productivity improvement of a variety of Engineering assignments with focus on automation and assembly systems, including ensuring that the required maintenance mechanics, Process Engineers and technicians are trained to maintain and sustain all automation and assembly fixture / equipment requirements. This individual works under minimal supervision, performing independent evaluation and applies standard engineering techniques and procedures.

Key Accountables:

●  Collaborate with product design engineering, manufacturing engineering, finance, quality and plant management to develop automation, assembly, inspection and error proofing strategies to ensure required financial requirements are met for all manufactured product.

●  Implement and execute automation requirements; design, develop, and maintain automated test scenarios to address business and technical use cases.

●  Participate in productivity goals such as providing methods improvements and cost reduction.

●  Participate in troubleshooting and triaging of issues with different teams to drive towards root cause identification and resolution.

●  Review all designs both tool and product for productivity improvement.

●  Lead automation project plan, scope, schedule, and implementation of test and project level architecture within the automation framework.

●  Work with outside engineering firms, contractors, and other vendors as manufacturing representative of assigned projects.

●  Participate in special projects as required. Prepare formal reports and recommendations as assigned.

Interactions Internal/External:

●  Internally interacts with Manufacturing Engineering Staff, Industrial Engineering Staff, Product Design Engineering, Maintenance, Tool Room, Environmental Health & Safety, Purchasing, Quality, Manufacturing, and Sales.

●  Externally interacts with outside vendors and customers.

●  Able to maintain accurate files, records, studies, and reports for timely and required distribution.

●  Must be willing to work in a “hands-on” role.

●  Knows how to develop a collaborative relationship with a variety of department leaders

●  A good communicator; Enjoys/excels at developing team members.

Education & Experience:

●  Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline is preferred.

●  Must be able to read blueprints and work with detailed information.

●  Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Automation Manufacturing Engineer in a manufacturing environment.

●  Experience developing / executing automation strategies for molding and assembly highly desirable.

●  Demonstrated ability to develop and lead a team.

 Experienced in developing department and capital expenditure budgets.

Physical Requirements

●  Must be able to read blueprints and work with detailed information.

●  Some lifting, stretching, climbing involved when assisting in troubleshooting equipment issues.

●  Light physical effort in using PC keyboard, handling department reports, etc.

●  Continuous standing and walking.

 Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs.
