Associate R&D Chemist

Job Summary: Entry Level Chemist

Reports to:

Research and Development Chemist

Location:

San Luis Obispo, CA

Travel:

25 - 35%

Responsibilities:

The 80:

-          Development and/or optimization of sealants

-          Innovation, development, and implementation of manufacturing processes

-          Test development for sealants

-          Lab mixing and testing of sealants

-          Specification development of sealants

-          Functional testing support for products

-          Research new chemistries for sealant innovation

-          Design experiments for sealant optimization and benchmarking

-          Regulatory Compliance

The 20:

-          OEM sealant development and optimization

-          Troubleshooting Production

Key Deliverables to Demonstrate Success in 12 months:

-          Complete working understanding of all Retail sealant properties, performances, and design intent

-          Complete understanding of Retail blending processes

-          Understanding of Retail sealant requirements based on market type

-          Understanding of regulatory compliance methodology for launching and reviewing of new products with movements toward leading regulatory compliance needs for the retail products as it pertains to sealants.

-          Take over all responsibilities required to support the Retail Sealant needs

-          Take over regulatory compliance responsibilities for retail sealants

-          Understanding OEM sealant properties and design intent

Skills and Experience Needed

-          Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Material Science, Polymer Science, Polymer Engineering, or similar field.

-          0 to 4 years related experience in process and application chemistry, preferred in liquid, solid, and elastomer chemistry with a process and applications background or blending process.

-          Ability to take a product from concept to commercial production.

-          Able to communicate clearly and work with teams on a global scale
