The Opportunity
We have an exciting opportunity to join the High Force Application team responsible for managing our premium product lines.  As an Applications Engineer your role will include a unique blend of expert applications consulting, sales support, product marketing and business development, for a wide variety of applications within predominately the metals and composites industries.  


The main responsibility of this position will be to become proficient in our extensive line of high force testing equipment, accessories and software and to utilize that technical and product knowledge to create marketing collateral, to provide sales support and to solve testing challenges tailored to unique materials and product testing applications.  This position will involve close and detailed contact with our customers and field sales force to produce complex system proposals, pursue custom product requests, resolve customer issues and build customer relationships.  In addition, you will be required to conduct product demonstrations, sales presentations, and be involved in training the sales, service and support staff on the use of our products. 

Responsibilities:

  • Primary and Secondary Sales Support contact for global external and internal sales personnel, assisting in answering sales and technical questions, system configurations, custom product requests, resolving customer issues, and order margin analysis
  • Leading Machine Order Configuration Teams (MOCT) to ensure complete order configurations to ensure quality and ability to ship correctly
  • Participate in ASTM/ISO standards meetings, technical conferences, exhibits, and seminars
  • Participating in the training of sales, service, and support staff on use of products to fulfill customer needs
  • Managing the HFA Demonstration Laboratory, including scheduling of customer and field applications test requests and customer demonstrations
  • Ensure that the laboratory is clean, organized, and maintained in a presentable form. May also assist in product testing, trouble-shooting, and evaluation with equipment in the lab
  • Assisting in the production of sales tools such as smart guides / proof books, presentations for specific applications, and product videos in accord with ongoing marketing campaigns
  • Generating application papers and technical notes for use by customers to ensure Instron’s leadership in the market
  • Identifying and documenting competitive advantages for specific applications
  • Assisting Product Management team with voice of the customer and market research studies as required
  • Assisting product development and planning activities by identifying and documenting new market opportunities and market trends experienced through the interaction with customers and their specific application needs

 
Travel to customer sites, technical conferences, exhibitions and seminars may represent up to 25% of work time.

Requirements

Successful candidates should possess a Bachelor’s degree in engineering (preferably Mechanical Engineering or Materials Science), with some relevant commercial work experience or an interest in either sales or marketing.  Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills are also required for this challenging role.
