Job Description

The Application Engineer is responsible for the development of proposals through the on-time delivery of decorating equipment and tooling. This includes the coordination of planning, design, and installation of machinery and equipment in an industrial environment, using knowledge of engineering and programming.  Primary role is to help define and support all preorder requirements for accurate product solutions for the Group.  Technical support includes site visits for application review and in-house equipment set-up/test, as required identify best solution for application.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates projects and acts as liaison between customer, engineering, and manufacturing. Follows through on customer questions and requests including changes.  Monitors project development for customer.  Creates production schedules/timetables and monitors progress of project to schedule.  Mitigates issues to maintain on-time delivery.
  • Develops machine and tooling concepts and quotations based on customer specifications. Creates conceptual designs in cooperation with Engineering Manager, Electrical and Mechanical Engineers.  Prepares proposals including designs, price quotes, delivery date and other requirements.
  • Follows up proposal through communication with Sales Representative and/or customer. Prepares new proposals as needed.  Closes sales.  Enters new orders into computer system.
  • Visits customers as needed to evaluate needs and develop proposals. Makes frequent telephone contact to answer customer inquiries and ensure customer needs are met.
  • Monitors purchase/receipt of supplies. Makes recommendations, intervenes as necessary.
  • Monitors setup and operation of new systems. Makes follow up visits upon customer request.
  • Provides customer support during quote, design, manufacture, and set up of systems. Troubleshoots customer problems.  Makes decorating recommendations.
  • Coordinates customer visits including internal readiness and meeting schedules.
  • Coordinates customer sample requests including delivery. Establishes cost of samples and communicates with customer.
  • May set up and operate equipment.
  • May assist in development of operating manuals and spare parts inventory.

Job Requirements

  • Associates degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar technical degree
  • 5 years prior experience in equipment building or design
  • Prior technical sales experience in machines/equipment
  • Knowledge of decorating application and manufacturing processes preferred
  • Continuously required to communicate verbally and in writing
  • Occasionally necessary to perform analysis and calculations and coordinate orders.  Frequently plans, prioritizes and reprioritizes duties and projects
  • Frequently required to use judgment for decision making process.  Evaluate customer needs and sell equipment
  • Frequently required to sit at work station and communicate electronically and in person
  • Occasionally required to set up machinery, and bend, kneel and crouch to inspect equipment
  • Occasionally necessary to travel by airplane or car

  •  Up to 20% Travel
